It's pretty sad when you drive the same car for a year, spend two days beating up on it and NEVER EVEN NOTICE that the sway bar is not connected due to a broken bolt.

Front bar, right? I wondered why it was rolling over & lifting the inside rear tire so much.

Got lots of interesting pictures, though.

What happens as the Chick School, stays at the Chick School (unless it happens to be caught on film by some sneaky papparazzi!)

It sure felt good to be back behind the wheel at an event, but the rust showed, I ran my first two runs with the traction control and ESC on I forgot all about turning it off, so my afternoon runs were like starting all over again learning the feel of the car.
I'll be looking at all the data and video we collected this afternoon to see where the work is needed.
I'd especially like to congratulate Todd Emershy, this was his virgin event on race rubber! Goes to show that spending a novice season on street tires does pay off. Don't get too comfortable tho Todd, now you are competition, not student...
XX is next.

Chris - I noticed you were lifting the inside rear tire wayyyy off the ground in the first left turn after the start, kinda makes sense now.

Apparently, front sway bar issues ran rampant yesterday - I had a similar problem - due to a stripped nut, the right front end link on my 330i got progressively looser during each of my runs and finally broke on my 4th run. The car suddenly felt like a canoe when it let loose - tipping side to side and almost impossible to keep it pointed in the right direction.

I did not mean any harm Phil, just mess'n with you. I did not know you were so sensitive about your seating position.

Great day of autoxing and a really fun course.

Considering all three afternoon runs were MUCH better than the morning, I probably need to thank you.

The Celica handled the trip from the pit area back onto the trailer quite well. No broken sway bar mounts or anything.

I've looked over the results, and don't see any reason I couldn't have gotten a top PAX finish. It's a shame we had to go ;)

I still think Danville has a thing for front sways. We broke both front sway mounts on the Miata at the Evolution school 2 weeks prior at the same site.

Well, I couldn’t stand the suspense of waiting for Ladies Class to be reviewed, so, those who know me as the Ladies’ Pax Geek………………………..

Here are my incredibility unofficial results. :? If the times posted are correct, it looks like I held on to 1st by a tiny .046 seconds over Jackie. (Who, by the way, is probably a little rusty, having been away at school and all.)
My trusty calculator puts Mo third, back by .232 behind Jackie, and Malia 4th, another .235 behind Mo. That’s just a hair over ½ second difference in the top 4 slots. Ladies class is kick a$$ this year!

Seriously, the Chicks in this class make autoxing with THSCC so much fun! Thanks to all of you! :cheer:

FWIW, I had to tighten a front sway bar mount there at the Extreme School also. :?

Congrats to Todd Emmershy and Donna Frank for shrinking my head a little. Especially Todd, who managed to make his 5th run his best, despite the increasing grittiness at the start.

Thanks Art. I'm sure it was beginner's luck. One run/win doesn't make a pattern - although it was fun to get 1st place! I'm just glad that Alan Schoonmaker and Eric Peterson were running in X-class; and the other A-stockers had a miss - the perfect storm for me.

Thanks again, Chuck. Now I'm really in big trouble. I only know less than 1% of what I need to know and now my teacher is black listing me! Besides, I thought this was a sport where you're always a student!

It's actually pretty amazing how well the STi handled considering the front bar. I don't know if that is a compliment to it being AWD or the chassis design. In RWD cars it is immediately apparent when the bar lets go (i.e., lots of wheel spin and eventually a spin). I kept thinking during the day..."1) this car is really *not* fun to drive after the first 60 feet, and 2) how in the world do people make these cars go fast." Having not autocrossed this car before I had no idea what it was supposed to feel like.

This is about the 50th time that I have not used the excellent advice that Shawn Whipple shared with me about 8 years ago....Shawn said, "if you've been autocrossing for a while and the car is not doing what you want, don't blame yourself, start looking at the car to see if something is wrong." It really is good advice and a way to find problems much quicker...unfortunately, I just always seem to assume that I'm doing something wrong in the car.

Sincerely,

Note to Karl Shultz - bring TWO spray bottles of Quick Detailer to the grid from now on. One for the car, the other to shoo Marcus away. :P

Todd, does this mean you'll be with us on race rubber for the rest of the season? I'd love to have us with seven AS cars per event this year, that'd be great.

great event, might even have learned somethings.
Underpowered + overwieght I swept FSP with a 58.4.
ran mid 58’s all day - I was aiming for a 55/ 56 and I could have found it.
video shows that best segments would have given me 56 flat.
and I did atleast beat theAudi A4 Torque/HP Monster.

2nd run was the best & clean . I could have put more power down from the start and through the 1st slalom. did this in the 4th run (1.3sec faster)

going into the round about as i entered the gate I was usually aimed at the 2nd righmost cone on the “live runway border cones”. this was too tight on the roundabout. by chance I got it right in the 3rd run and aimed at the outside cone/ then came out setup aiming to the right of the fire extinguisher. this was worth .75 sec in the round about and through the slalom.

In the finish I tried 2 lines. in the morning trying to get a long straight from the 4-cone slalom to the right pivot. this mean late breaking and an early apex on the right pivot, followed by e-brake trailbraking to slow and get set up for the last slalom. I got it right on my first run but was .75 sec slower on my 2nd run.

in runs 3-5 I tried what everybod else was doing -- break early before the right SWEEPER and downshift in/at the decreasing slalom.

I ran the same times with both methods but was just slightly faster with the long straight, ebrake method. since I have a cable shift car this was also the eaisiest method.

I’ll get the video uploaded soon.and I’m interested to see some of those fast drivers.

Oh, and corded one of the old victoracers, so looking forward to new Azenis at Sanford
