I wouldn't worry; they're pretty unmotivated and I really doubt they'll make it.

What does them coming have to do with you going home?

Don't get me started on Duke FSAE...

It's coming back together this year but last year it was a mess.

I wouldn't call a 23rd place finish a mess. . .

Its ALWAYS a frantic finish to the year.

I think Todd is implying that we end up having to wait around for them to finish the car/get it running again. Reliability has never been FSAE cars calling card (not just Duke, only 37/110 cars finished the endurance event last year).

Feinbergs floorboard references were to an event where I drove the FSAE car in Rocky Mount one year where we showed up with the car not QUITE finished (it had no floorboard). We had to run to scramble to put something on there at the last minute to pass tech.

Brice hit the nail on the head. Those damn, er, cool FSAE cars aren't exactly known for their reliability.

Mr. Feinberg,

I've got ahold of some of the preproduction BFG R1A tires to test out for BFG this season. Word is that their hot stick is way beyond the A6 or V710. Especially now that the SEB has one-off approved camber plates and a limited slip for 330i's in D-stock to offset the 135i advantage, it ought to be a fun season -- see you Sunday in Danville.

I knew it! You're probably in cahoots with that Barnes character. I've been lobbying him to move the Integra to HS but so far I can't get him to bite. They keep talking about speeding up the stock classes and I'm pretty sure that falls right in line with their "agenda". I just don't get it. :whoknows:

The guy that showed up with the ex-Drake university car last year had a reliable car.

Never choked off
Never spilled any fluids
Finished all his runs

Actually, now that I think about it, do you Dook FSAE guys have any of the basketball team helping out? That would explain the choking problem!

I'll be here all week!

Funny, ryan

We actually have a pretty decent beginnings to a fuel map so far. I haven't seen it choke off any...

I'm trying to do my part speeding up stock class by doing porsche option conversions. Got the 030 sport running gear, 220 LSD, and just added 383 sport seat left. The last has "purely cosmetic modifications" though, which are still legal, but...well you might notice what's interesting about it.

Of course I'm still working on that latest mod getting the tach to work. I don't know how I lucked up with option 666 Lifeless Tachometer, but I'm down to replacing individual resistors and re-working solder joints inside the blasted thing now and it still won't work short of supplying DC voltage to the motor leads...

In the old Datsun tachs ( OEM 510 and 240Z ) it was usually capacitors and transistors that died.

Awesome event today! Thanks to everyone who made it happen. The Miata was an absolute blast, I can't believe how quick it is. Huge thanks to Colin for letting me use his Azenis!!

Well, I enjoyed the course and my first clean runs of the season  But...I was rubbish. Off the pace the entire day, and I'm pretty sure there was a low 48 in the car today, maybe something even faster than that. At least I almost crashed into the bus on my last morning run, that was exciting.

You know, now that it's all set up for national level AS competition, I could probably get some pretty decent money for the S2000 right about now. Maybe I'll stick a for sale sign on the window down at the Doublecross in two weeks.

Signed,

Congrats to Todd Emmershy and Donna Frank for shrinking my head a little. Especially Todd, who managed to make his 5th run his best, despite the increasing grittiness at the start.

I don't like the pavement at Danville. It's OK running uphill, but on the downhill elements, there's a grittiness that makes me, well, nervous. I did like the course layout, especially the run up the hill with the big offset. As always, Karl's S2000 was a hoot to drive. Time seems to slow down a little in the slaloms in that car, despite the open cockpit, and the screaming engine note and blat-blat-blat of the rev limiter. That said, the (downhill, of course) first slalom after the turn-around burned me progressively worse on each of my first 3 runs, and I finally had to just slow down a bunch on the turn-in to get in position for the 2nd slalom cone. I wonder if that change made me too cautious during the rest of the run.

I would have agreed with you after my first run. All I thought I had to do was clean up the cones and it would all fall into place. As the day went on...

I'd like to thank Todd Breakey for his comment this morning that I should consider driving AROUND the slalom cones rather than through them. Dude, why haven't they called you up to teach in the Evo school?

Sounds like we missed a good time.

On the other hand, I'm not sunburned and all worn out today.

I think there was a really fun course out there. but I just could not get (wait for it) - focused :P
I think I'm going to have to start ignoring everyone's times and start just concentrating on the driving again. After totally blowing the finish on the 2nd run, I could not get any runs that I felt good about. I just felt distracted and out of sync the entire day.
Glad to see STS has become such a big party, though :)
