A really cool thing happened yesterday when Bernie and I were driving back up to Danville for day 2 of the Evo Extreme School. We always stop at the little convenience store on the right, just as you reach HYCO Lake. Over time I’ve formed a casual chatty relationship with Sharon Jones, the store owner. She always remembers us because she loves the little green Mini. While chatting yesterday she asked if we had the Mini with us and walked outside to see it. The first thing she saw was the “V” on the hood where we’re putting the names of all who make donations to the V Foundation. I explained that Bernie’s a cancer survivor due to donations made by others in years past, so we’re matching donations made to be presented to the V Foundation by THSCC after our upcoming Annual Jimmy V AutoX Event. Before I could finish she asked if she could donate. She said she wanted to feel like she was racing by having her name on the car. And, she said it made her feel like she was helping someone. She asked me! That’s the cool thing! So, the next time you’re driving up to VIR, or on the Danville for an AX, take a few extra minutes to stop at the HYCO Lake convenience store for ice, coffee, a T-shirt, gas, or whatever. Tell Sharon, “Thanks”.
