Strangely enough, the right front should have taken the brunt of the load on the course we ran out in Arkansas but it was the left front that decided to prematurely self-destruct. If you look closely at the left front, you can see the "DOT groove" peeling up which probably means that it was headed for the same early death that befell the right front tire.

It looks like Hoosier will be sending David and I a free replacement pair and I don't expect it to happen again but it definitely didn't help our car go any faster last weekend. Oh well...

Anybody want to buy a pair of barely run tires? Cheap! :)

Word up fo' shizzle!

'Course, trying to figure out which is the current fastest street tire ain't no picnic either this year. Maybe it's time to focus on my guitar playing again and forget all this drivin' junk. At the very least, chords are expected in that context... :|

Were those tires shaved or did they start at full tread depth?

Is that corded stripe on the inside or outside half of the tread? Looks like the inside half, based on the rounded shoulder on the other side. Are you running a lot of toe out? That, combined with a lot of caster would make you drag the left tire when turning left, and extra camber would concentrate the wear on the inside half of the tread.

I do not miss those days. The joys of running a spec tire that is competitive for 4 race weekends :-) Plus they pay out pretty nicely too. With a little luck May 3rd and 4th, I will have a new set for $300.

Art, I didn't know the alignment at the time and questioned a potential issue there myself but I checked it Monday afternoon. 1/16th toe out in front and 0 in the rear, ~-1.2 degrees of camber in the front and ~-1 degree in the rear. I don't have the tools to check caster very easily but it isn't adjustable so it is hard to mess up.

I had the entire front suspension off the car about a week ago to fix an axle issue and other than a few aging bushings, everything seemed kosher. The rear trailing arm bushing is shot as is usual with these cars but that shouldn't affect the front end. I really feel we just got a bad pair of tires especially considering the way the tread looked to be peeling up from the DOT groove.

We were lucky enough to win a free tire despite the problems and I got this set dirt cheap thanks to the folks over at Discount Tire and the Jimmy V event last year so I'm certainly willing to give them another whirl.

Sure, I haven't had any issues out at a rally-x event at all.

Billy Mays says that Mighty Putty could fix that. Heck, it might even work on your tire too.

Hmmm I'll have to try that.

Anybody want to buy a lightly used CRX? Comes with a pair of free Hoosiers!!!1!

Or buy the Hoosiers and I'll throw in the CRX for free. I'm willing to work a deal!

Heck, I'm feeling crazy-- buy now and I'll throw in a free turbo Volvo! This is a limited time offer and restrictions may apply...

Well, yeah. But your tire wear was excellent up to that point! =D

I just got off the phone with Jeff Speer from Hoosier and they will be shipping 2 new tires out on Monday. Big thanks to Aaron Buckley for giving me his contact information and despite the fact that I used Aaron's name in the conversation, Jeff was still super nice about the entire thing. :)

Awesome customer service and I'm hoping the next pair will last a few runs longer. It's rather refreshing when a company is that helpful to some miscellaneous unknown lowly no-drivin' rice-boy auto-x'er from nowheresville North Kackalakki. At least that's how he described me. :D Just kidding, of course.

Sticking with the Ho Ho's for now...

Whew.

This sport was starting to get spendy.
