There has been a resounding lack of interest among all four NC clubs for the NCAC series over the last few years. Dean Furr, the chairperson of the series, is unable to continue as chair for many reasons. I am unable to chair this season due to family and work obligations. If no one steps up very soon the 2003 NCAC season will have been its last.

This series has been a great way for NC drivers to match their skills with those of other clubs throughout the state at a level above regular regional competition but below national level. Sponsorship over the years brought many sets of free tires to good homes. This is one of the few mid-level series in the country.

I've spoken to many who long for the "good old days" of the NCAC but seem unwilling to do anything to help bring those days back. Do any of you want to bring back the free tires, cool champion jackets, and tough competition of the NCAC? If no, then let it die. If yes, let's restart it NOW.

Dean has offered to continue tallying points and paying bills. I will gladly continue maintaining the web site, as a redesign was already in the works. All that's left is meaningful support in the form of representatives from each club, those reps to elect a chair, some work from those reps in the form of finding sponsorship, and figuring out a workable schedule.

Let's put aside the petty ego trips that every club has been party to in the past and get this series back healthy and meaningful. Contact Dean Furr at furr913 at charter dot net if you are willing to help.

There were a lot of people a few years ago TOTALLY opposed to the idea of THSCC pulling out of the NCAC. Based on that, I can't imagine no one stepping up now to save the series.

I think to truely "save" it and "bring it back" you'll need a Mike Dishman/Karl Kauffman type chair, and a sponsor contengincy worth the effort for the high level drivers to want to show up and run, like NCAC had it it's hey-day.

I'll be interested to watch the process from afar. Good Luck.

I want to echo Chuck Frank's sentiment about this. It will really be a shame if NCAC dies after - how many years has it been? - 15 years? of very unique and fun statewide competition.

I have always welcomed and enjoyed our participation in th NCAC and it would be too bad if we pull out of it just because no one is willing to help out. I haven't seen any of these "ego trips" or "opposition" around here in the last few years that Kevin and Diane are talking about (thank goodness), so don't let that scare you away from helping out.

I would ask, though, that if someone is interested in volunteering, let us (THSCC senior officers) know first. Our club would be looking for an NCAC representative in addition to whomever volunteers to run the show. Neither job is hard work, sounds like it would be just the normal coordination chores that inevitably face a volunteer organization.

I say  to whomever step up to keep the NCAC alive.[/quote]
