I know the feeling :) I think those guys running black numbers on a white number plate or circle are smarter than I am -- works on any color!

And if you're just slightly artistic, go to AC Moore in Crossroads and :

1) buy their heavyweight magnetic sheet (<$10 I think)
2) walk across the store to the adhesive vinyl, buy 5 sheets at 99 cents each
3) go home, and print out appropriate sized numbers on regular paper(use numbers on the THSCC website if you need inspiration)
4) tape vinly sheet to a cutting board, then the printed number paper on top of that.
5) trace around the printing with an exacto knife, cutting through paper and vinyl sheet
6) cut appropriate rectangular sized chunk of magnetic material to hold the number, with enough room for a white border around the edges
7) stick number to magnet piece.
8) rinse and repeat for other numbers and class designation
9) show up to event without ticking off T&S

I've certainly never been accused of being artistic but I've done what Dustin suggested many times in the past. I did skip #2 & #4-#7 by just cutting up the magnetic sheet itself and that seemed to work pretty well.

I've also done the opposite of #9 but that had nothing to do with my numbers or class lettering. :?

I cut up the magnetic sheet once also, and the numbers degraded really fast, and eventually flew off once on course.

I've been using the same ones for 3+ years without any issues. They did teach you how to use scissors at Dook, right? :)

Or maybe I'm just not driving fast enough... :whoknows:

Yeah, be carefull of the quality of magnetic sheet you get. The magnetic sheet specifically at AC Moore is relatively heavy weight, at least as compared to some of the other hobby store stuff I found. Maximizing the "magnetic material surface area" will help keep those numbers in place. In 4-5 years of running my numbers, I have NEVER had one of my simple 8x12 magnetic sheet numbers fall off in an AutoX. And I haven't had to change numbers for 4 different cars and 3 different drivers :)

McMaster-Carr has thicker stuff than AC Moore offers: http://www.mcmaster.com/ see page 3638; the Cut-to-Length Sheets with Holding Power on One Face White Vinyl.

My prices are lower with more choices. I use the strongest magnetic sheet available and 8 year vinyl. You can always find cheaper that use cheap materials.

Actually, it was in pre-school, but "using the potty" was a prerequisite, so I understand why it might have been part of your undergraduate curriculum.

Hey, you started it. . .

:D

Chuck, what kind of prices do you have for panel type numbers, i.e. one big circular panel. Something like these:

http://www.soloperformance.com/Solotime ... -1405.html

15" circle with class and number printed.

You can PM if you'd prefer, I'm looking to get numbers for both me and my wife.

I never went to Carolina so I can't comment much on their curriculum but from what I saw at State, there was no undergrad scissors class and most people used the potty for something completely different. :drunkin: And I'm pretty sure they didn't learn that in pre-school. At least I hope not!

On the other hand, I did take "Running With Scissors 401" in grad school at State so maybe I just missed the undergrad class. :whoknows:

And, for the record, *it* was started long before you and I were ever born...
