For some reason I think S2000s are ineligible for STX?

Sometimes I wish that weren't the case. Fitting that thing with Hoosiers twice a year is ruinously expensive.

The S2k is not ST* eligible right now. Some say it should be allowed to run STU.

Yeah, STU would make sense, although I doubt it would be a contender there. It's got too much potential though for STX. - AB

Point is, I'm unprepared (sic) for STS, let alone STX.

Just thought there were more people interested in LSDs, bigger brakes or whatever. If that's not the case, nevermind. :D

Correct me if I'm wrong, but its not unheard of to run an STS car prepped to STX spec is it? I recall reading an article in GRM about a guy who was quite competitive (not sure on what scale, but it was probably larger scale than just THSCC autocross) in STX running a well prepped e36 BWM w/ 8" wheels and LSD fitted.

I've actually toyed with the idea of running STX just to run against my wife (who I believe is the reigning STX champion, being the only one who competed in enough events to be eligible), but decided against it to run against what has been a great group in STS.

Why you gotta try and break us up huh? Go break up AS, theres too many of them anyways. . . :D

I wasn't trying to break up STS. I was trying to get the whole group to move to STX. :D

Steven Rankins ran his 2.5RS in STX at the national championship a few years ago and trophied, I think. I think the only thing keeping it out of STS was a high-flow cat. And maybe tires. Not sure.

A few years back, STS Civics on the right course can beat STX cars at the National level. That's been proven many times, for the Civics have limited wheelspin without an LSD, but can't take advantage of the 245 tires.

Since the Advans came out, that has changed. With the Bridgestones in STS, the playing field has likely been leveled again.

I would much rather drive a BMW in STX trim (LSD and 245's), but against a top STX car (WRX), it's still at a pretty major grip disadvantage. - AB

One of my favorite things anybody ever said over on rr-ax.com:

"The idea (behind STU) is to take a really nice expensive street car, make it uncomfortable and barely streetable, then not let it run DOT R's, so it'll go slower than the stock version of the same car."

That's a good quote and dead right. Even the STi's and EVO's go faster in stock form than STU form and they by far have the best grip. - AB

I know of one local 89 Civic being prepped for STX during the off-season. It will make use of all the STX rules over and above STS to see if it can truly run with the WRX's. I had a great idea for an STX car and spoke at length with a couple guys around the country but as long as Nationals is on asphalt as slick as HPT I would never try to build it since it has lots of torque but is only rwd. The WRX's are only so good for one reason, they have a ton of grip given the limited tire size.

Nice. If I retire the MINI from National stuff, I'd run STX. Camber plates. Some 'stones on stock legal wheels. That's all I'd do.

Arrive and drive has a certain appeal. And the addition of camber plates would have very little impact on its daily drive quality.

I'm not sure what I'm driving.
Maybe an ITR in DS.
Or half-assed STX prepped 330.

Chang Ho Kim made a fully prepped STX Civic Hatch with LSD and 225's and did well but to my knowledge hasn't gotten a top gun in it at Nationals.

What did you actually do to run it in STX? I remember an H pipe and some different street tires.... not what I would call "prep" :) - AB

You realize who you're talking to right? This is Les. He didn't keep the car long enough to get the chance to modify it...

Yeah, it was more of an aversion than a serious attempt. I did do a little more than that though, some crummy suspension package from Eibach that included springs and shocks and some camber plates (critical -3 camber in that car). The mistake I made was the tires, I didn't go with the hot Azenis at the time because I felt they were dangerous as a DD tire and went with some Pirellis instead. I will tell you that it was a helluva fun autocross car if not fast. The new generation Mustang should be better and the "stones" look like a better overall DD tire, that could be fun. Its too bad there isn't an ST class for sports cars I could run the vette in, it would be nice to not haul around and change all that tire.

:-) Hey now, I'm trying to reform I did only have that car 14 months, but I've now owned my Miata for 42 months, a personal record. I'm thinking there are other Tarheel members more worthy of the AADD title these days.
