I'd definitely run in STX if the E36 M3 wasn't specifically excluded by SCCA. Anyone know if the E36 M3 exclusion will continue in 2004?

Per my brand new 2004 rulebook the following cars are additionally excluded from STX: BMW M3 (E36 and E46), BW M5 (all), Mazda RX-8, Mitsuibishi Evo 8, Subaru WRX Sti. Of course, monitor Fastrack (its online) for corrections or additions.

I think it's amusing that they specifically listed the STi even though it is 1/2 liter over the turbo displacement limit. Apparently a lot of people don't read the rulebook...

That's cool. The more the merrier. I was looking at last year's results and didn't see hardly anyone in the class. It's definitely more fun with more competitors.

Well, we were novices last year, so only made it into STX for one event. The rest of the time, we were in NOV. I think at our one non-NOV event, there was my wife and I, and one other driver (also in a WRX).

So, we should help fill out the class so others can get some easy trophies! :)

Yea, I think that was me. If you are talking about the event in Sanford on your Honeymoon, that was I.

It was nice talking to you guys too. Super nice people.

I am thinking about moving up to ESP, but I will see after the 'test and tune' where I want to run.

Just depends if it is more competitive (read: more than 3 people) to run in Street Tire or STX this year.

BUMP!!!

What happened to all the people that stated they were going to drive STX this year?

I think I am one of three people running STX?

Ack, come on STX people, I know you are out there!!! :)

Brian, it actually looks to me like everyone who seriously stated they were going to run are pre-registered to run. You and I, Vern G., and Mike J. and H. Poteat is on the waiting list, but registered for STX. I don't think Mike W. or Shawn W. were serious, I think they were just messing with me. A 4-5 person class isn't too terrible two trophies, no bumping.

So, it looks like me against a slew of WRXen. Great.... Looks like I'm gonna have to spend more $$ on my suspension.

Hmmm... a 4-5 person class isnt bad I guess. I am tempted to move to ESP and run TIR there as the TIR class is the largest thing in the club.

No offense to those running STX. I would rather run STX, but I would like to run against as many people as possible, and as many different car types.

Hmm.. my wife is running in ESP.. maybe I will just see how she stacks up.

Thanks for the reply!

Les,

Maybe a better limited slip (Torsen T2R) and some trick "140" tires.

Yeah, that's what I was just thinking.

I'll sum up what everybody else is remembering right now & say "If your car is STX legal, please run it in STX."

:D

You'd even have a great measuring stick running against Peter Baio (Impreza 2.5RS on street tires) in SM, if you wanted to keep all the STX-illegal stuff on the car.

If you want to "run against as many people as possible," just remember that all the results are paxed after the event, and you'll get to see where you stack up against EVERYBODY. But if you run in TIR class with an ESP pax, you'll be screwing yourself in the overall pax. Just something to think about.

Even an F Stock Pax is tougher than an STX pax. :D

Take it from someone who has run TIR, there is really only about five cars that are truly competeing for the top spots.Occassionly someone will come out of the woodwork, but as far as a season long competition there are only about five or so that will be consistently there. A smaller class is more cozy. You get to know your competitors better and I believe there is more of an opportunity to improve. You'll be able to guage yourself against other drivers in similar cars that are similarily prepared. I'm starting to sound like a college recruiter.Big school vs. small (cozy) school. Did I do a good job? Is anyone buying this?
Les, you are too modest. Just like a coach that says his team doesn't stand a chance. I'm glad those guys were picking on you. I was almost thinking that some of that talk might have been aimed at me.

We pulled out of the event coming up this weekend (last minute scheduling conflict), but will be in STX at the next event. :)

Boo.

I might just run PRO STX :)

Heck, why not. I dont care about trophys. I figure, if I am going to autoX, I might as well compare myself to the best.

See all you guys this weekend.
