I completely disagree. If it's too much, all you need to do is add ballast until the power-to-weight ratio is more manageable. Simple, effective and cheap.

You obviously know nothing about cars.

Jim

Yup and Lowes is delivering that pallet of sacrete to throw in your hatch to slow you down at Sanford.

Where are you getting that figure from Wes? According to this site, which appears correct compared to MSN and a few other sites, the car is only rated at 162/166 at the crank?

That's before you add a stock-legal replacement supercharger. What, you don't mock those up at work either? Geez.

Jim

Fixed!

172 whp doesnt sound very E Stock to me.

I know that Chevrolet consistently under-rates their engines on the Corvettes and (and the previous Camaros), but Porsche never did. They always dyno at less than crank numbers... air filter or not.

Now, Mazda has it down. They say a car has 250hp when it really has 213 and dynos at 193, or better yet will say a car has 160, they actually have 140 and dyno at 128... then they offer to buy them back, sort of.. :) - AB

Matt McGrain isn't going to be very happy about that. :D

And, just to be on topic for once, I don't let go of the wheel even with the truck-like steering ratio of the CRX. I've had some interesting moments captured on video this year where I got into a tank-slapper and couldn't visually keep up with what my hands were doing. Having "jazz hands" really helps in those circumstances. Or maybe that was "ninja hands?" Once again, I'm slightly confused...

On the other hand (heh, pun!), I have let the wheel unwind by itself with a relaxed grip on occasion on corner exit but that is only when the car was very stable already.

Whatever. I can see you mocking up a solenoid and maybe an air filter but there is no way I will believe you've been able to mock up an entire engine. And then dyno'd it? Sure!

I thought that is what was referred to originally. Any time I let the wheel slip, I'm generally transitioning to power, and the rear wheels are taking over the steering effort. 8)

I paid attention to how I control major steering wheel movement yesterday in a safe area. Assume a turn to the right. I leave my left hand/thumb in place and rotate almost 180 degrees before I then cross-over my right hand above my left arm (try it sitting in the car). Now I can grasp the wheel at 9 position with my right hand/thumb and continue turning if I need to. You can do this all the way to full lock and back. The whole time my left hand never leaves the wheel -- the right hand crosses over the left arm as needed once rotation nears 180 degrees in any direction. At first, you'll want to shuffle your hands much sooner, so it takes some practice.

BMW sport steering wheels have a nice 9/3 position with thumb positions and a bump out above the thumb, so they work really well for this type of steering wheel control. It's always easy to know where you are in the number of rotations, and the spots on the wheel hold your left thumb nicely in place as it always stays in contact.

When you get this method down, you'll be amazed at how incredibly fast you can deliver steering inputs while keeping them smooth and controlled the whole time (and no, I'm not an expert at this by any means...just trying to communicate what a drifting fanatic at the BMW PC taught me). :)

No it doesn't, especially in my special reverse gear a.k.a. neutral.

Did you guys hunt me down on rennlist?

I have the car in my rennlist sig.- yeah 162bhp for the 1989 is right, when it was new. Probably gets about 130 to the wheels.

The "172 rwhp" thing in my sig is a joke. People come on rennlist all the time saying they dyno'd their NA with that much hp and all the NASA spec racers know they're just being a troll or their dyno is broke. So that is definitely not meant to be taken seriously. Even with my k&n filter. It doesn't make any more power and the old one had a whole butterfly stuck to it.

It's not the HP! It's trailing arm suspension with old bushings- the back end of the car will go all up and down depending on what you're doing with the gas, and when the butt goes up in the air, the toe goes with it and you now have the rear wheels pointing in the spin position, plus no traction at the rear end anyways due to all the weight being on the front.

It's OK, Chachi, it was just a joke. There'll be more happy days in your future when you can get us back.

And by the way, Ryan, there is no way on earth any amount of mods short of boost (and I'm talking cams, whatever) would ever get an 8v 944 engine to make anything north of 150rwhp.

Sorry to jack the thread.

But Ill field questions about my sweet ride, heart magnet, and cowboy hat anytime.

I would also suggest that, if you're so out of shape that just letting go of the steering wheel completely is the "fix," the run is probably trash anyway. I'm just sayin'...
