I got the opportunity to mentor Mike (Audi A4 #144). Let me just say that the kid was one of the two slowest cars on course during the first run group. He started out running at something like 75 seconds. He ran one run went along for the ride. Afterwards, I critiqued his run and told him we'd knock off five seconds. The fifth and sixth runs I was telling him "gas, gas, gas!" to which he started responding. On the fifth run, we didn't quite make our goal as we only dropped about 4.5 seconds, but he really responded and started going faster. The third run he dropped almost another 2 seconds off the last. So this kid who started with a 75-something runtime ended the day with a 49-something clean run, and this was his first autocross.

I really enjoy mentoring novices and feel that I get more out of it than I give. Riding with Mike actually pointed out flaws of my own driving. Now that I'm making it to most of the events, I think I'll try to get back in the habit of mentoring. Thanks THSCC for the fun and for all the opportunities I never even considered.

Phil rode with me at my 1st autox. I can't remember if I learned anything, though.

I'm sure you didn't learn anything, I was just about speechless when you told me it was your first run of your first autox. You still make me sick!
