Hey, anybody going? If so, could you pick up some wheels for me? Set of 4 without tires. If not, I guess I'll be running in an autox this weekend. (might as well, if I'll be there anyway)

Thanks. :D

I'm in! I'll do Sunday 12hrs I can get the wheels, but I'm in the Southern Pines area so I may not be the best person to pick them up.

Oh, yeah. Should've said "preferably somebody who lives within 30 minutes of Four Oaks."

You mean other folks live near you? I once heard Four Oaks referred to as Three Oaks and Stump.

BTW, how do these work? How much time do you spend sitting around, working, driving? Hmm...

I think Triad has a two day autocross this weekend at Danville...at least it is on their schedule.

If you run 24 hrs, you have to work 2- 2hour shifts, 12 hrs works 1 2 hour shift.

Other than that, get in line anytime.

The lot they are using for the 24-hour event is rather small. It's probably around the size of Greenville but the surface isn't nearly as good. Normally I like to run the 24-hour event but I'm going to take a pass this year.

Triad's Danville event should be fun, however.

The Triad event is a test of a new event format SCCA calls "Solo Trials".
A cross between AX and TT using a higher speed multilap course. It sounds interesting. The rules are on their website or forum (can't remember which). No novices, 6 groups by class. Classes will be PAXed within the group to determine winner. IIRC.
The 24 hr is a BLAST! All the seat time you could want or you have enough tires for. Running under the lights in the middle of the night is not to be missed! :D

Solo trials have been in the book for a long, long time. Nobody had the nads to put one on. I remember Ernie going thru it in Solo Safety Steward training.

The members only event last year was pretty close to a Solo Trial.

The times I ran it you spent most of your time sitting in line with your car inching forward, like a 24hr grid lock traffic jam with an ax thrown in every 30 mins. :-) However I never stayed all night, I hear the traffic lets up dramatically in the wee hours of the morning and you can run as much as you dare. I still managed to get probably 20 runs in over the course of 24 hrs with 4 hrs of working and an ~8 hr sleep break.

I'd really to like to try that but this weekend isn't going to work. Laurinburg, with its grip, if you can work around the busted concrete, would be fun to have a high speed AX. So when are we going to do one Mr. President?

There are actually 2 Triad events in Danville this weekend. The one on Saturday will be the "circuit cross" that is supposed to feature speeds higher than we normally see but it had been somewhat neutered by a recent talk with their insurance carrier apparently. Regardless of the speeds, it should feature "2 laps" per run and sounds like fun. The entry limit is low but I do believe you need to be a member of Triad to attend.

The event on Sunday is a regular AutoX and should be similar to every other event we've run at Danville recently. That would be, what, 15? :D

Unless you are a glutton for punishment, I'd think hard about attending the 24-hour event. While I'm sure it will be fun, the lot really isn't that great and the course will either be painfully slow or reasonably quick but super short. It could be worth it for the seat time alone but that depends on what you are looking for.

I'll be in Danville all weekend myself...

Jim
