Well, it was a long and hot weekend. There were some timing gliches on Saturday that led to an hour and a half or so delay, but otherwise a pretty good event. As anyone who has been an officer or an event chair knows, these things don't set-up and run themselves. I'd like to commend Highlands for such a big undertaking with what seemed like a fairly small support crew from their club. I know there are a few things that folks might complain about from this weekends event, but hopefully people can keep everything in perspective.

I am super tired, but I am going to take a swing at listing THSCC class wins.

AS - Eric Peterson
CS - Dustin Fredrickson
CSL - Malia Fredrickson
DS - Aaron Buckley
DSL - Jackie Branscomb
ES - Kevin Butler
GS - David Spratte
HS - Bernie Baake
HSL - Gwen Baake
ESP - Art McDonald
CP - Walter Houston
STS2 - Jim Feinberg
STXL - Shawna Geyer
SM - Keith Strassel
SM2 - Jeff Eng

Sorry if I missed any...see the part above about being tired.

In regards to the NCAC Club Cup, it was decided that in the interest of time, that would be tabulated later in the week. They mentioned that THSCC seemed to have a solid hold on the PAX part of it, but we will have to wait and see. Stay tuned.....

Woohoo!

I think everyone who was there has a pretty good idea of the 'downs' of the 2 days, so I'll list my 'ups':

- The course was changed to address the concerns brought up both days, and I found both of them challenging and fun. Admittedly, a noobs perspective, but they seemed to have interesting combinations of features that could eat time, and places to go flat out if you got setup for them right.

- I'm playing with the 'big dogs' now - I'd say my new suspension was 5% of it, and the awesome coaching from last weekend was 95%. Was there any other club that made the effort to rent a facility for a private school? THSCC *deserves* that cup, dammit! OK, I'm still not at the pointy end of the class, but now I'm searching for 10ths rather than seconds, and I have some clue where I'm leaving them on course.

- Tent City freakin' rules 8)

- I have a second career in pizza delivery if I ever need it

When I showed up on Saturday, I was glad to see everyone in "decent, but not spectacular" sprits due to the problems happening at the time. Looks like you took it in stride and kicked some ass!!

Good Job!

Ditto!

Definitely challenging courses. I had a lot of trouble finding the limit on sun. and was braking too much somewhere. Oh well. Nice job to all the 'heels.

That is definitely the last time I ever do another autox when the temps are going to be higher than 95. Saturday was brutal.

I'll agree that overall it was a fun event. Some of the problems could have been easily avoided with better organization, but on the whole it went ok considering 3 people from Highlands basically do EVERYTHING for their club.

It was brutally hot, which exacerbated any organizational issues, but I will say that I was impressed that no one had heat stroke all weekend. I think people played smart and drank plenty of fluids and got out of the sun when necessary.

I want to give a big thanks to Stephen & Judi Westerfield and Les Davis. Fortunately for me, Stephen & Judi forgot their folding chairs near Bryan's Excursion, so when I was driving them over to them after the award ceremony, then noticed one of my trailer tires were flat. We found the screw in the center of the tread and plugged it really quickly. I must have run over it on site somewhere, because the sidewall showed almost no wear from being completely flat.

While we plugged the tire (glad Les had a plug kit), Les drove around picking up other peoples trash (we were the last to leave the site) while Stephen and Judi picked up trash near the porta johns. When it was all said and done, we had a 30 gallon bag filled, which I tossed at the gas station down the street. Once again, it really does show that this club really cares about our sites and each other. :D

I would love to donkey punch those that threw trash in the porta johns. Some people need to grow up. - AB

I had a good time this weekend. It was nice to hang out with some tarheelers and let someone else run the show. I'd also like to thank Highlands as it wasn't easy to put on an event like this.

Tent City did indeed rule. In all it's glory...

in all seriousness, I left the site feeling pretty good about the event.

I can't say that I was happy the entire event. late starts, event stopages for late workers, course changes, timing issues, 3 runs, missed times, etc. kinda brought down the fun level, but the Sunday course was a blast...lots of speed, flowed well and made good use of the space.

it's amazing how a ~45 second blast of adrenalin can make you forget all kinds of stuff!!!!

i appreciate eveyone's contribution to the event. Can't wait for next year.

Because they weren't announcing times, I'm not sure if anyone knew how close things were in A-stock on Sunday. As for Saturday, well...let's just say that those pesky cones kept a couple of hard-charging ladies from leading the pack. :-) However, let me never miss an opportunity to say that, on Saturday, I BEAT MY HUSBAND (on raw time) :woo:

Going into Sunday, Steve St John (Blue Ridge region, I *think*) had a sizable lead on the crowd (12 competitors!!) It was very tight between Steve, Eric, Donna Frank and me, with about a .10 separating the four of us. And then we got to third runs.....and Eric opens up a can on the field to steal the win for the day and the event. Donna, Chuck and I all ended up on the same .10, we'll have to wait for final results to see where we all ended up for the day. (unless someone already knows...I didn't stay for final results) Steve couldn't get a clean run to match our times and finished several .10s behind us. Donna may have put enough of a lead on Steve to take second for the event. (I think the new suspension agrees with her!!) As for me, if I'm lucky, I stayed in fourth to take the last trophy. Not my best finish, but it was a blast competing with everyone and I think we all had a great time trading the lead.

Chris you put down a killer run on Saturday. It is those damn pesky cones that keep screwing it up for us.

I was less than thrilled with my driving. On Saturday I had a plan that was screwed up by them cutting off our 4th run after we had already completed the first three. So Aaron had me by 0.5 second and then Sunday I blew the 3rd gear upshift on my last run and still put in a time that was 0.2 slower than my fastest so I should have been faster. Either way props have to go to Aaron on driving very well.

I have tons of respect for Highlands for putting on such a big show with such a small crew but there were many frustrating moments that had me questioning why I stuck around in the heat.

The final AS results were Eric 1st, Steve 2nd, Donna, 3rd. Beyond that I 'm not sure.
