Folks, I'm not going to speculate on the minimum number of entries on the forum. Earlier this week Stephen indicated that 50 was the target.
I hope that there is indeed a lot (at least 50 people) of interest in this event, since I want THSCC to do well in the upcoming NCAC. I want the THSCC entrants in the NCAC to have every advantage in terms of familiarity with the site and also a psychological edge.
While a lot of seat time is good, I also want some of the club hot shoes to take time to share their techniques and strategies for everything from how the host club handles registration and tech, to walking/learning the course, driving specific kinds of course elements, and how to get yourself ready mentally. (Jim Pastorious has already volunteered) The NCAC event almost certainly won't be run like a THSCC event - probably a single tech location, long lines at registration, and I'm guessing 3 runs per day, all in the same heat. It will seem a foreign to those (like me) who rarely run other club's events.
Here's how I see our Prep Day playing out:
a) A handful of drills whose configurations are based on our best guess of how the host club will set up the course. For this, I'd like the experienced drivers to ride with the less experienced, and then have the less experienced ride with the experienced (or experienced with experienced). This could be the longest segment, time-wise, of the day.
* break while we set up the full course *
b) Coursewalking practice. Kind of like a novice walkthrough/refresher. with narration from aforementioned hot shoes. Hopefully much more sophisticated than a novice walkthrough.
c) Advice/Instruction on getting your game plan together. What do you need to accomplish in each run?
d) Mock autocross, 3 runs only, to make it more realistic.
Anyway, that's my view of what this event can be. I'm open to other approaches to running the event, but I will probably give more weight to suggestions from folks who are going to help with event organization and/or instruction. Gwen and Bernie have already volunteered on the organizing side, and as mentioned before, Jim Pastorious is our first volunteer instructor. Post your ideas or offers of assistance in this thread, or via PM, as the voices in your head dictate
