GM announced a ZOK package for the 2008 GXP today. Doesn't the ZOK have stiffer springs and thus pretty much make it the GXP to have? Since 2007 people can't use those...

It *has* to be your fault now that you're in the secret society conspiring against all AutoX'ers no matter what car they happen to drive. Some people call it the SEB and it must be true 'cause I've read it on the internet many times.

Well, there is only one GXP owner here, sure. But it's just news I was pointing out 11 minutes after I saw it on SCCAForums from a poster who works at a GM dealer and keeps up with these things, so it's pretty hot news nonetheless. It shouldn't cost people *too* much money... ;)

And hey, I bought a 2004 STi only to turn around a year and a half later and get a 2005. I'll bet that cost me more than upgrading a GXP by one year will cost their owners.

This is the age old game of "Keeping up with the Jones" and/or "How much did that trophy cost you"

I'll be curious to see exactly what they did to the suspension to make it so much better than the current one. I've been down that road with the C4 when I had the option of FE1, Z51 or Z07 handling package. In stock class swapping in the Z51 shocks and front sway bar over my base suspension was legal and helped a bit. Didn't get the stiffer springs of course. It also didn't require selling a car and replacing it.

I don't suppose that you could take the whole package under update/backdate or whatever that is called?

Unfortunately you can't because there is no update/backdate in stock class. So the 2007 GXP owners can't just swap in the package. If a 2008 GXP owner didn't get the ZOK package they could theoretically swap the entire package.

Graham, Keith answered the question about update/backdate properly. To the other issue of "I wonder what they did..." the answer is clear. They have had a "ZOK" suspension package for the non-turbo Solstice since pretty much the beginning. That's what won Nationals in CS last year (and took top PAX). So it's a pretty well known quantity. In fact, it won on OEM shocks. I'm sure they can be better, but they are damned good as it is. Some of that is that the car has stiffer springs, though.

Not much new so far... NA ZOK =FE3 suspension pkg = GXP stock suspension. Might delete all the options like the ZOK (I wouldn't want one without AC!, the rest cruise, electric windows, sound system won't likely amount to 60-70#) put some stiffer shocks on it from the factory(BFD  ) Unless they reprogram the ECU to give more power it's a yawn for AXers, more exciting for the RR guys. Meant to compete with the '08 HS2K club sport.
This isn't news to me, I knew it was coming 5 months ago.

You don't think they will put shorter and stiffer springs on it than are already on it. I know the GXP already comes through with the same spring rates as the ZOK NA Solstice but they are about an inch longer causing a higher ride height. That alone could make a big difference in the way the car drives.

The reason they put longer springs on it was because they couldn't get the ZOKs on the transporters without dragging bottom. They had to quickly add temporary spacers under the springs (in the front) and issue a TSB allowing their removal. It is possible they will use the shorter springs and spacers again, if they limit the availability to racers only, Streeters would be dragging bottom over every speed bump otherwise.
We'll just have to see what the whole package looks like, but it's not eligible for comp use until next season, and we're busy seeing if we can make this year's go faster to worry about it. I'll be talking to my contacts at GM next week, so I'll see if they can release details yet, last time they said it would be mid Aug. before the final specs were released.

I guess GM decided to sell some parts to the 2007 owners:

http://sccaforums.com/forums/permalink/ ... spx#251784

It wouldn't be *that* alarming to me if there wasn't an employee of a GM dealership chiming in that not only can you not order 2007 cars any more, he *still* can't find any mention of these parts in the computer. I don't think I've ever heard of a car having an option package appear for a model year *after* you can no longer order a car of that model year. I suppose the MS-R Miata situation is close, but it does seem to have appeared before the last 2007's were built...

Well, Chad Knaus was banned from trackside at NH this past weekend, has an "in" with GM and is known for cheating for Jimmie Johnson. Coincidence? I think not.
