True...I had the M5 deep into 3rd gear on that straight along the taxiway, but the risk of a loss is vastly less in a straight line at those speeds...still possible of course with a mechanical failure or grotesque driver error I suppose.

I didn't really feel like the layout we had was unsafe, although the wreck in Toledo makes you think about these things a little harder. Just suggesting we critique ourselves just as much as we critique others, its something I know I'm bad about.

The danger on the taxi-way is not the random mech failure, but the consequences of driver error. Instead of just spinning into the grass on the runway as the most probable outcome of driver error (I said most, I saw Rick B. trying to turn his S2K into a train  ) the result could easily be wrapping car around a tree or worse.

That's why the elements on the taxiway should be low-speed technical ones vs open fast stuff. You just don't spin as far slowly.

I believe that Walt, Chris Lanier, Chris's dad, and myself were in the 80's on that back stretch. I just remember the SM crew's speeds, there may have been others.

On the subject of wood-stealing - I took STX, Phil Fausz took STU and Bobby Windmeyer took BSP as well...

I think we do. I don't remember anybody being that shy when sharing their concerns/displeasure at any particular course we've had. Or anything else for that matter. If I'm not mistaken, you have the pleasure of that experience.

To reiterate what the others said, it's the "type of speed" that gets you into trouble on the taxiway. High speed transitions on the taxiway have led to some unfortunate incidents in the past and I don't think anybody wants to see those duplicated.

Running WFO in a straight line as we did in the event you were referring to isn't so bad barring some unforeseen mechanical issue. Sure, it's possible a driver could do something potentially nutty even while traveling in a straight line but the odds are *much* lower than asking people to slalom at 55+mph in the same space.

Well, I guess we kind of did that.

Les Davis took FTD, Jim Feinberg was FTP, Jim F. won Pro class, and, of course Les had SS. Donna Frank won AS, Chuck Branscomb won DS, Bernie won HS and Wes won CSP. Special congratulations go to Jackie Branscomb from me for winning Stock Ladies, (I did manage to snag 2nd place, along with about half the cones on course) and Stephen Westerfield was 2nd in a large SM class. If I missed anyone, I’m sorry. Results are up on TSCC site.

Hey, I took 2nd in CSP  On worn out street tires and no real mods. Only Wes beat me.
:cheer:

I was well into third on the taxiway. It was pretty fast out there!

Yeah and I trophied 3rd in HS. In an old Celica with positive camber, bent trailing arms, worn out suspension and worn out all season radials. Not to mention being piloted by a RWD hack who has never driven a FWD in an AX before.

That thing rolls like a dingy in the ocean and steers like a drunk pig!

I did run it off the taxiway into the grass trying to slalom like Jim describes. I got 2nd gear wound up pretty good. Have no idea how fast that means. It started to roll a bit and didn't feel bad. Then it just went. Both feet in and into the grass. I scrubbed a lot of speed before I hit the grass. So I slid then popped the clutch and continued my run. It was a bit fast even in a car with now power. I'm actually glad I didn't bring the Z06 with Hoosiers.

Driving a FWD drive is a new and very weird experience. I think dropping even more pressure out of the rear tires is what got me into trouble. It did make it rotate more though...

Ok, I suck at reporting our wood stealing efforts! Thanks for everyone stepping up and filling in the gaps.

Well it appears the results never got posted, but I *think* I hit not quite 80, but 78 in a Miata.

So can you now relate to my challenge of driving a FWD Cavalier on track?

*IF* Todd still has the handwritten results I'd be happy to convert them over to a spreadsheet.....

Wow, I can't believe that I didn't get those done. I guess I really do suck. (shut up weargle!!) I'll have to look around the stack of timing crap in my bonus to see if those are still in there. If so, I may scan then and I may post them. Don't hold me to that though!!!!

Wow, they do have some good drivers, but our club sure can hold it's own, especially considering many of our heavy hitters didn't show up.

I found several cars classed wrong at the race (like the E46 M3 in STU), but it seems at least a few of them have been cleaned up in the results. I believe there was an S2000 in STS.

Good, fun course, and great to see many of you folks out there.
