One thing everyone is missing is the number of competitors versus the length of the course. In an ideal world, the designers can design any thing length they want. But they need to consider the number of competitors versus the worker stations.

Last weekend you only had 109 (lets round up to 110) drivers. Right off the bat you need to reduce that by 30 people who will not be working the course (T&S, officers, gate, tech, coordinators etc). I actually think that number is a little low.

That leaves you with only 80 potential course workers. Subtract out at least 12 workers due to start/grid and you are now down to 68 workers. That is only 17 workers per session. If you have 8 worker stations, in an ideal situation, you will have two workers per station. And that is if you balance things perfectly...which is impossible.

So the course designers have to be aware of the number of people registered when designing the course. That is especially true of some where like Laurinburg. There is no over lap and a worker station can only cover 7-8 yards up and back from their position.

A real good rule of thumb, is to count on 10% no-show for each event. This past weekend it was actually higher at 16%.

I'll play with AXWare tonight to see just how easy it is to do the run group and worker assignments in the program. I'll report back tonight on what I find.

AXWare can split the event for you when registration closes and also assign worker assignments. .

WOW, then you won't need me :toast: ......oh wait.....the computer can't chase down the workers BFF sitting down next to them on the course; or make sure they actually show up at the right station...... :cryin:

It would be interesting to see what AXWare comes up with. If it can split the run groups evenly it would save a lot of trouble. I sort of agree with Stephen that it usually is not a problem. I don't think it is critical for Danville or Greenville or any course with a "ville" but the longer courses like Sanford and especially Laurinburg are going to be a problem because they are so spread out unless they get run back on themselves, which is possible at Sanford but never done at Laurinburg. I think that for the next event at Laurinburg we definitely need to review the run groups to make sure they are even.

I had that in mind both when we were laying the course out and while setting out worker stations. The course layout we had this weekend seems to be the pavement that most folks try to use when designing a Laurinburg course and honestly, I don't see how you can get away with much less than 10 worker stations. That is just a lot of area to cover.

Where is that wheel, by the way? We could always steal Triad's this weekend, I hear that it's pretty sweet.

Look for it the last time we were at Laurinburg. It surfaces because this is the site that exposes all ills. The small sites cover up the worker assignments.
