Mods move if this is the wrong sub-forum...

End of July NASA mid-atlantic is holding a karting enduro as part of a big weekend at VIR.

I've already got a team for Saturday, but thinking that any seat-time is good, I'd like to run Friday as well. I've got one teammate from NASA, but we're looking for 2 more, at least.

Anyone in THSCC up for "Team Conekiller"? (not a final name - just thought that up - apologies to Gwen and Bernie  )

Thanks!

Have they updated their karts in the last couple years? At last check they had some not-very-fast *and* not-at-all-equal 6HP or so karts. Not interesting, IMHO.

Hmm - that I don't know. I've never been - was it the same operation as this before?

I'll find out more.

The first picture is that crappy cart, but that second picture is a kart I haven't seen there before. It's possible they upgraded or that's a kid kart (doesn't look like it, but it's hard to tell). I'd definitely want to ask how old the enduro karts are.

I ran there for an hour at the recent Rolex race and the karts look like the one in the top pic and were in pretty bad shape. I changed karts twice to find one with a decent engine and didn't pull in a funny direction. I would say skip it unless they can ensure you will be using decent identically prepped karts.

The THSCC/TZC staff went to the VIR Kart track back in Feb (before we ran VIR full for the weekend!). They were still using the same old karts (only had 7 working at that time).

Donnie's right, the 6hp karts aren't equal and they struggle up the uphill off camber turn leading onto the back stretch.

When we were there, it appears that VIR has sold the Kart facility to someone else who is running it. The rules have changed because you can now rent the track and bring your own kart, which wasn't allowed due to insurance reasons before.

You might want to call up there and ask about the karts. If they have upgraded the karts to the 9.5hp Sodi's (which I would assume would have been posted on their website), then it could be a lot of fun.

For comparison, the 6hp karts they use typically turn lap times in the mid to upper 50's (secs). I watched some guys up there that same weekend in Feb running methanol karts and they were turning lap times in the mid 30's. Now that looked like some serious fun!!

I'm seeing similar comments about the Feb NASA karting enduro (they made it non-points because of mechanicals and unequal karts) - but all I've read about the one in April was positive.
Still trying to get comments directly from someone who drove there in April.
