In an effort to level the playing field for all THSCC competitors I propose the following changes:

1) All competitors will need to run the THSCC spec tire: Hoosier's AS03 or AS04. We believe in giving a little bit of choice.

2) The competition results will be indexed based. Only the top three finishers will be award trophies. They will be very nice trophies and you will receive them while standing on the presently retire THSCC podium.

The only negative I can think of is the increase in the number of cars at a Triad event. Anyone else think of any down sides?

It's a shame that those tires are illegal in STS/X

With the desire to increase popularity of open classes, and the increasing popularity of street tires, I have a slight revision to your proposal.

We implement a Race Tire class. We would also eliminate Novice, PRO and Tire class. All normal "open classes" would require street tires. Anyone who wanted to run on race tires would have to run in a paxed Race Tire class.

This would increase open competition, allow everyone to run "cheater" street tires, and eliminate the concerns about the pax being unfair as we would have deeper competition in open classes.

Race Tire class would kind of become like PRO class, as only people interested in national level competition presumably would be willing to bother with race tires.

I think this would do the most to serve the needs of the general club population and support continuing trends towards super high performance street tires.

To give credit where credit is due, this is an extrapolation of an idea that Mr. Whitney came up with during a big of a tongue in cheek discussion we had about this whole issue. However.... it just may have some merit.

There will be no STS/X classes any more in the "new order". Those cars would move to their appropriate SP classes for indexing. Okay, one issue down

Define "race tires"? Currently, most of us run DOT approved tires. See, your confusing the issue. My proposal is simple and straight forward. One tire and one class. Can not get much simpler than that.

Jim, you're a national level competitor and you don't know what a race tire is? :)

But for the newbies who may not know.. one way to approach it would be this:

A Race Tire is a DOT approved tire that doesn't meet the definition of a Street Tire, and we have a definition for that in the rules!!

See how you are confusing these newbies? We all know that the rating on the sidewall of a tire is arbitrary at best and misleading at worse. That rating is in relation to the manufacture's other tires. I really think the "0" rating Hoosier puts on the new THSCC spec tires is a misprint. If they followed the rules of the other tire manufactures, that should be "200". See they left off the "20". You know the AS03 & AS04 are not their softest compounds.

Therefore implementing the spec tire rule simplifies the club's rules and rewards an honest, made-in-the-USA tire manufacture. Wow, that is another benefit, we are patriots!!!! USA USA USA

Okay Dick.. you got me on that one.

I guess I didn't include REAL race tires like you run because not even Jim would get those confused with high performance street tires. :)

Jim, I talked to some prospective new members today about your proposal and here is what they had to say:

I think it would be easier to simply ban tires. With the availability in recent years of 20-24" rims, it's no longer necessary to actually mount tires on the rims to achieve acceptable ride heights. Of course, there's that spark suppression question, but I'm sure someone in the club will figure it out.

could always wrap them in carbon fiber :) tuff stuff, can hold up well to heat and it'll add no less than 20 HP PER WHEEL! Gains up to 25 HP per wheel when used with blingin spinnies...

*blingin spinnies sold separately. claims are not based on facts or any actual research. personal checks not accepted.

Oh, I sleep pretty well. Especially since I dump my great ideas here and not on my pillow :)

I do agree, banning the MR2 is logical. Hell, it is an inexpensive sportscar that is a lot of fun to drive. It must be banned if I am to follow my own logic. So we will be limited to Hoosier clad family sedans.

So we might as well make one more modification and change the spec tire to Scott's cheater tires (that was SJ's term). Wow, we have gone full circle. Family sedans on street tires. Luckily, I have a four door family car.
