Anybody ever called Rockingham dragway? They look to have a pretty massive pavement spread, just curious if we have gone down this road before.

We have in fact been down that road before. Didn't realize that was before your time B-Rice. I don't know exactly why we never returned that, was it the chicken bones? It wasn't a great site, that much I remember.

It was a bit small, slick pavement and chicken bones.

Things could have changed, for better or worse. I recall the show "Pinks" had a few episodes filmed there....how bad could it be? If it's within 1.5 hrs of the triangle I think it can't hurt to check it out.

I ran down there a few times early on w/ the club. Some serious concrete supports under the lights and it's not wide open. We got pretty inventive setting up the course. To Rob's point, we spent a crap load of time cleaning up the site, crap everywhere and it wasn't particularly smooth. Somewhat like Piedmont dragway course we ran on.

Considering all the talk of insurance and the risks, my school of thought is to set up somewhere wide ass open and to be able to control the crowd assuming we have some visitors. After re-reading some of the stuff Cline pointed out, we need to make damn sure we can control people and make the course safe and free from obstacles.

That said, the K-Mart in Garner is "closing" and has been for about a year. The parking lot is wide open and is as big as the NCHP open site. Assuming once they exit, we might be able to run there a few times. It would easy enough to control w/ some tape.

What about Burlington? Did he ever get that rezoned so we could run there?

The land in Burlington was sold. I asked Richard for who he sold it to and haven't heard back.

FWIW, I seem to recall hearing the main reason we stopped going to Rockingham Dragway was due to major increase in usage fee.

I only went to Rockingham twice and somehow actually remember the chicken wing bones on the course oddly enough.

That place seemed pretty decent and maybe a tad bigger than Greenville with about the same level of grip unfortunately, but still fun.

What is this place like...is it still vacant? Lot looks open.

I worked there off and on from 94-96. The lots are not that big. FWIW, my father handled the title for that complex for the Teer family from Durham that developed it.

That's actually a good thing. If they were to pave it, they would be wanting to use it for aviation IMHO.

We will be there in July for the Jimmy V (July 12-13). MSR event and such coming soon.

We will also be there in September, either the 13th or 14th.

I didn't realize that. I guess I should check the schedule more often. Thanks!

Update. It's not on the webpage calendar.
