Crossed wires, there, Scott. PCA has that site on their schedule only once 11/2. It's a huge site, and in the "zone" that would appeal to CCR and Triad. I was curious why CCR and Triad haven't investigated that site so there would be 3-4 events/yr there instead of one. Of course it could very well be that the owners won't allow it, which is fine.

I was not referring to us or our membership. I was only referring to my willingness to make that drive for an event.

Sorry, my bad.

@Steve, my comment was that it's being investigated, not that we can't use it if PCA uses.

The bulk of our membership have been fine with 2 hour drives for many many years. It's only 1.5 hours for us Durham folks :).

Yep,I'm aware of that....CCR and PCA "share" Zmax, and we and Triad use Danville, so I wonder why not share that Statesville site too? Just curious....

Because the bulk of our membership doesn't want to drive to Statesville for an AX?

True: But it sure beats driving 500 miles to Wilmington, OH for the absolutely best concrete site I've ever seen and not having a clue what to do with all that grip.

What happened to Piedmont Dragway? I thought it was a decent site.

One of the guys I brought to the autocross Saturday mentioned this site to me. I was not aware of it. He actually went down there yesterday and spoke to someone who indicated that they might be willing to let us run there. Its called the Raleigh Executive Jetport, but its closer to Pittsboro, NC.

That's on my ride home. Not sure how viable the pavement they have is or what is actually available, but it can't hurt. I never really thought they had much usable pavement, but I'll discuss with them. Their runway is a bit narrow, but their "parking area" might work if it doesn't have planes parked on it like in the picture.

It was the parking area my buddy was discussing with the receptionist. She indicated they might be open to clearing that area for our use.

The only problem with that is if they have aircraft tie downs mounted in the asphalt

There are 11 million different flavors, some are no big deal, some are a big problem.

I have flown into the "New" Sanford airport aka Raleigh Exec many times, but never thought they would actually let us autocross there. Not likely they would shut down the only active runway for a one day event, especially since it is a reliever for RDU, but I have been wrong before  I believe the tie downs on the ramp are flush with the surface, but I would not want to drive over them in a turn at 60mph. The person to talk to would be the manager and his office will be in the FBO. I think the airport is closed right now for maintenance, so maybe we could have one awesome event there before they re-open? I believe Cathy Taylor flies out of there regularly, so she may have a personal contact.

Did anyone ever contact the Wilson Mall? Since Sears left the entire rear parking area isn't being used for anything. As a matter of fact, the entire mall (sans, movie theater, and K&W) is slated for demolition so it's not we are going damage the asphalt.

I have not contacted them, but I don't see a lot of lots that are really big enough to accomodate much. The best lot appears to be to the southwest that is about 400x300, with a 200x300 offshoot up to the northwest side of it. Its better than nothing, and might be cheap though considering. It's on the list, just haven't gotten to them yet.

Years ago (late 70s) when THSCC used to run there in the "back", the West side of the mall, the course I recall the best spanned the entire West side of the mall (which you can almost due today with a cross-over of that access road, it was more open back then) heading South along it, turned East up the side of the mall, uphill, turnaround, and back through the course. It does look like some combination of the available lots might be able to still be put together though?
