As many of you know the SE Divisional Series has struggled in recent years, with declining participation. Much of the problem has been required travel time to events. For us the big problem is none of the events are ever near us. The closest two in recent years were in South Carolina and Norfolk, VA, both in 2005.

Things are changing. The SE Division autocross program is now beeing chaired by Heyward Wagner and he has made some big changes in format aimed at addressing the travel problems. check it out.

In addition to the format change, CCR (Charlotte) is co-hosting with Triad one of the Super Regionals at Danville airport in early May.

Whose up for seeing how well THSCC can do as a club at a slightly higher level?

This sounds pretty cool. Plus, for those folks who want to go to Nationals and can't make it to a Tour this year running a Div. exempts you from the waiver fee.

Sweet, I might actually be able to do this. I didn't realize that you could do a div in place of a tour.

Just to add info, the point of the waiver fee has nothing to do with generating income, it has to do with encouraging competitors to attend a national-STYLE event to make sure they are familiar with the format before heading to Nationals, so the confusion at Nationals is lessened.

That's why Divisionals count...they are run just like Tours and Nationals.

That's what I figured, There just aren't any tours that are close enough for me to justify the drive. Adam and I were talking about it and it would actually be cheaper for me to pay the waiver fee than share the expense of attending a tour. By the time you factor in the gas, hotel, food, and stripper money, Tours end up costing much more than the $100 waiver fee!!!

Oh, I understand. I'm on the SEB and I'm likely to have to pay the waiver fee this year. I'll probably do some Pros, but likely no Tours or Divisionals.

I don't know how much we can do for the club at this level, but Bernie and I plan to be there. Where could you go that would be closer to home to "step it up a notch"?

Do I have to be a SCCA member to participate?

We will be there.
Is the SCCA definitely going to accept one of these events as qualifying for the championship since each besides the two national tours are "super regional events" according to Heyward, not officially sanctioned as a Divisional event?
I have no idea what the difference is, must be something in the paperwork tho.
Considering the level of competition at the Dixie NT which were primarily SED members, I'd expect a strong field. Should be fun, I really like Danville, I just hope they don't use a pivot cone...

I do not believe that those events will qualify. Only the actual "divisional" that is apparently the end of season championship will qualify. Someone should check with Heyward to be sure, though. My memory is fuzzy on this from the convention.

According to the suppliments: You do not have to be a SCCA member to participate in the "super regionals" (only in the NT events and the Div championship event). Non member will acrue points, but these will not become official points until the competitor becomes a SCCA member. You cannot win a SED championship without participating in the championship event.

And since the Div championship isn't until Nov, won't help much.

It's a bummer that they put the event on top of the Walnut Ridge Pro. Even though I'm really not looking forward to driving to Walnut Ridge 2 weeks in a row (Tour + Pro) and putting 4000!!! miles on my (smoking & sputtering :x) car, I want to support the Pro series in hopes that it doesn't go away next year.
