Hopefully all novice school drivers are on this forum, and if you are, please read the following info. This is lifted from the event preregistration page.

>>>>>>>>>>>>

Hello novice drivers and welcome to the kick off event for the Tarheel Sports Car Club. We’ve always strived to offer novice a weekend to sharpen your driving skills, so hopefully we’ll give you plenty of seat time and some great instructors to help you get ready to take on the season.

Offered here is some basic information for the event to get you ready for a great day.

Food:
Food and drinks will be provided for the novice school.

General info:
no wandering and exploring, stay with in the general area of the autox event. We want to be able to come back and use this venue

> if you have never worked a autocross, we’ll get you comfortable with working the course and watching the cones as the cars pass through the different elements.

> Make sure you have your car properly marked and classed. See this link if you have any questions.

> sign the waiver form and place the arm band on YOUR LEFT WRIST ONLY. Not your right wrist, belt loop or back of your hat. The starter will want to see your arm band during the start of the day. Without the arm band, you AND your passenger will not be allowed to run.

> you will not be allowed to take another novice driver with you while you drive. You will be assigned an instructor and the instructor will decide when you are ready to drive solo

> before you drive, you will walk the course with an instructor who will point out the “do’s” and “don’ts“ associated with proper autocrossing

Car Tech:
> make sure you arrive early so you can have your car teched and prepped for the day.

> clean out any loose items in the car, this includes cell phones cables, garage door openers, loose change and such.

> the battery has to be properly secured. You will not be allowed to drive if the battery can move and possibly short out the car.

> if your floor mats are not physically attached to carpet, they will have to be removed. We don’t want the floor mat to bunch up under the brake or gas.

> hubcaps and center caps on wheels should be removed. If your hubcaps mount to the wheel and are held in place by the lug nuts, then they can stay on, otherwise they should be removed

> top off and check any basic fluids such as oil, coolant, and brake fluids.

> make sure you torque the lug nuts to manufacturer's recommended tightness

> make sure you have no active leaks on the motor, tranny or diff. Oil on the track is a bad thing…

> recommend increasing air pressures for street tires to 36psi, unless you have guidance otherwise

> you WILL experience greater than normal tire wear. The tech steward will inspect your tires for measurable tread depth remaining across the surface of the tread and that no cords showing, etc... before the event

> If you plan on running all year long with the club (and we hope you are), now would be a good time to have your car teched for the year. Print out this form and bring it to the event. This has the potential to be busy, so have your car ready and go to the tech area early. This is very popular during the first 2 events for the year.

Entrance:
We will the use the Golden Knights entrance to the L’burg event.

Hotel:
Reports as of 3/5 are that the Hampton Inn is full. Jameson Inn may have a few rooms left. Scotland Inn unknown, but they're not a bad choice and they usually fill up last.

Actually it was my experience as an NC that it is the exact opposite of what you are hoping. Other than a few people who have spouses (or equivalent) that are already members. You won't hit many of them this way.

I was working with Carl and Emmie on getting them to generate me an email list for the Novices. That way we could broadcast email them and be sure they got it. Catch up with Carl, the script already exists to pull the list. That is how I sent info a couple of years ago for the YLN, Mentor requests and surveys, etc...

In the email put actual hyperlinks to our Autocross 101 pages. There are some well written explanations in there for novices. You just have to get them to go there and read it.

Yup, I already sent the email to Carl to get the list, there WILL be a pre-event email. Thanks!

Hampton and Jameson Inns are both full.

Holiday Inn Express has a few smoking rooms for $90

Comfort Inn has a few smoking rooms for $110.

Guess i'll be commuting :P

May want to try the Hampton in Aberdeen. A bit further out than L'burg, but a lot closer than Raleigh.

I can't speak from recent experience, but we stayed at Scotland Inn (sort of across the st from Comfort Inn) once a few years ago and it was good. Not much to look at from the outside, but the rooms were fine and it was fairly cheap.
