If they clear up that "for off-road use only" thing, this could be interesting.

With 205 tires on it, unless the tires are way narrow on whatever rims they've put in the package, I just don't see it beating the Solstice. Can't you put something preposterous on those things, like 285s?

Dude, those tires might as well be for shipping only. Yeah, you can already get a mondo tire on the thing. I forget exactly what, but plenty to compete with the Solstice.

It is another thing that gets "Stock" class away from "stock". You can't drive it on the street. Then it should be a Mod or SP classed car. While many of us don't drive our stock cars on the street they are for most of us at least, registerable. nice car, make it street legal.

Rob (who still thinks NASCRAP "stock" cars should be stock!!!)

I think they will have to address the not for road use bit because section 13 of the Solo regs states:

Cars running in Stock Catagory must have been series produced with normal road touring equipment capable of being licensed for normal road use in the United States, and normally sold and delivered through the manufacturer's retail sales outlets in the United States.

I wonder if having to special order the vehicle through Mazdaspeed qualifies as sold through the retail outlets.

It certainly isn't legal for stock class autocross competition if it's for off-highway use. It probably isn't legal for Showroom Stock road racing, for that matter. I think they pushed this announcement out to try to get people "on the hook" for this racing season...they probably think they're likely to sell a lot more of them to Showroom Stock racers, and those guys need time to get a car and get a cage in it, so this announcement and abillity to go ahead and order through Mazdaspeed probably gets them down that road faster. It sounds like, however, that they simply have some internal hurdles to clear to get the car street legal and likely able to be ordered at any dealer. Even if you have to get it through Mazdaspeed, as long as there are plenty to go around I doubt that SCCA will see that as an impediment to allowing it to race in stock. As long as they get it street legal, that is. Just MHO, not an official SEB position on the matter.

I would expect to see the car street legal and able to be ordered en masse by late next week, personally.
