Just wanted to thank Rob Harvey, Stephen, Chris, and whoever else helped put together today’s Test & Tune. Also, my sincere apologizes to all of you who chased cones for me. Oh, the conage! I can’t believe how rusty I've gotten in 3 months. I enjoyed both courses but I think my favorite part was in the P from the C-box over to the pivot. And...don't let anyone ever tell you that you can't spin a Mini at least 420 degrees. You sure saw it more than once today!
We’re starting to decipher all the info we captured on the Traqmate. Still have a lot of learning to do on how to evaluate the results, but today was a great start. Good seeing all who were there. Looking forward to a great season.

Gwen - I didn't know you were using a Traqmate this season. I've got one myself, that I was using for club racing, but I've not set it up much for autocrossing. Having hopefully lined up Eric Peterson for some codrives in my S2000 this year, I'm interested in anything you've learned regarding using it for autocrossing, where there's no "Start/Finish Line" to set to.

The T&T was a riot and IMO we lucked out nicely on the weather - it didn't really start to rain substantially until we were all pretty much packed up and on our way home. Plenty of dry runs. My poor clutch! I learned that launching an S2000 properly is an exercise in "drive it like you hate it."

Can't WAIT for A Stock this season. Lots of quality drivers in a diverse field of good cars for the class. Guess it's time for me to man up and find a way to get some wheels and Hoosiers for the new ride...

Definately a fun event. Thanks to those who decided not to come!!! :D
I don't think I've ever had that much seat time at an autox event!!!

Here is a picture of the course map (to the best of my memory!!).

Laurinburg is always a challenge when it comes to course setup due to the continuous degradation of the concrete. But the grip on the good concrete is sooooo much fun!!!

I agree that it was a good day. Thanks to Rob and everyone who helped organize the event.

It's always a great thing when you can't count the number of runs you did on a 60+ second course. The reality sets back in when you see all the tire wear though. Especially when it's your wife's daily driver. Oh well, I got some great practice on one of my weaker areas, pivot cones/turn arounds.

Stephen is a working machine!!! It takes a lot of dedication to drive back and forth to Lauringburg that many times. Especially when you factor in the fact that he did not have a car to drive on the courses (he worked the entire time!).

I forgot how great a club this was in the off season. I was worried about all the little things and getting everything set up all last week. When it comes down to it though....I probably didn't even really need to be there. THSCC'ers just show up and make it happen. Big thanks to everyone involved.

Thanks Stephen, You get the frequent driver miles award. If this happens in the future, you can always bum a co-drive in my car. Also thanks to Rob and his crew for setting up the course and the planning. And to Chris Brown who came and tech'd cars and then left w/o running his new F Stock vehicle.

 Rob

I want to again say I'm sorry for having to bail at the last minute. With situations crashing at the office, I had to make that a priority and it ate into my Saturday. Added to the fact that I tried to unwind made it for a worse Sunday and Rob was kind enough to let me just stay at home instead of coming to the event. Thanks guys!

Vincent, Jim Pastorius and I were talking in the paddock Saturday that this was probably the first event in 8-9 years that at least 2 of the 3 of us were not at.

Felt kinda weird. I am actually ready for some AX action :)

My thanks too. Both courses were fun -- the short course with the P was classic Laurinburg with several sweeping turns. However, the pivot was just silly. At full lock I needed the entire width of the taxiway to turn around.

The timed course on the main runway was tricker and made you plan out your approach to the offsets -- kind of like Jim P's sidewalk car course a while back. I really liked the snake section on the way to the south turnaround.

Since I missed a few events last year, I needed to destroy last year's tires -- mission accomplished!

Finally, thanks to Karl S for letting me drive his S2000 twice on the short course. Sweet car! Hey, I hear that Eric P is going to be really busy with his job this year, especially on weekends, so if you need a co-driver... :D

Man I hope someone took a picture of that layout, because it was just magic. It had this wonderful flow to it that just made the car sing.

I concur here too - the "snake" series of offsets going towards the last turnaround were great fun. At some point however, I did think I was at risk of mowing down some of the course workers.

Art if you want to codrive, well...you may have to get in line. Eric's got dibs. He's uncanny behind the wheel and seems to genuinely like driving the S2000. I plan to learn as much as I can from him when he's available.

I can certainly be had on letting people take fun runs in the car, BUT...no Jason Mauldin. He asked me if it was okay if he hit cones, and of course I said yes...but he proceeded to centerpunch some of them with the *passenger side door* of the car. I'm STILL buffing out the marks...

Jason believes cone marks are aesthetic enhancements to cars, kinda like tattoos, make you look tough. ;-)
