I took the phase I school, and found it to be very helpful. Some things I had once known but had forgotten about, and there were some new insights into how to really do things that I knew about but rarely did. My instructors were Eric in the morning and Rob in the afternoon. Thanks guys!

Thanks guys. Phase 1 and Phase 2. Same weekend. Like Art, I found Phase 1 to be really helpful. A lot of little things that'll help down the road.

Phase 2 with it's changing (degrading?) courses throughout the day and driving them without a walk hammered home the the concepts from both days.

Thanks to the instructors (for me Eric, Jonathan Roberts, Rob Falkner and Junior).

Great weekend. Can't wait to get back to Danville in a couple of weeks.

The Extreme School was great. I was completely worn out by the end of the day and so were the tires! I think I made about 30 two lap runs during the day. I guess that a whole season of autocrossing in a day!

I was worn out and still tired Sunday. It was well worth the money and I recommend it to all.

Thanks to Stephen and the others who made this possible.

What is left to say about this school, it was everything that I was told it was and more. I had a fantastic weekend. Rob, Johnathan and Junior were my instuctors for the phase one and two schools. As Karl said, having people of this caliber to ride with for two days is an educational opportunity. It should not be missed if your serious about this sport.
It was a pleasure to spend time with the instructors and the students that are totally dedicated to learning this sport I had a great time, learned alot about the way I drive, and am looking forward to attending another one, or two, or more :D

It's great to hear all of this positive feedback about the schools. The Evolution folks certainly put on a top notch event this weekend, I was really impressed. All of the instructors were excellent and I got lot of postive feedback on each and every one of them. Unfortunately, I didn't get to make it down to the other end of the airport to see how Extreme/Phase 2 were going, but I did get to sit in on most of the end of the day meeting for Phase 2 and it sounds like everyone really learned alot.

Judi and I had Tim Aro and Eric Peterson as our instructors in Phase 1 on Sunday and they were both extremely helpful (although I think Judi must have slipped them some extra cash as she seemed to be getting closer and closer to me throughout the day). Eric was particularly helpful in getting me to look ahead in the afternoon.

Personally, I would really like to have them back again next year if I can drum up enough interest. I am thinking Phase 1 and 2 again and maybe a Challenge School. There were lots of folks that expressed interest in this yesterday as well.

You can sign us up now!
We have done the challenge school 3 times now, twice in the rain, and would do another in a heartbeat. Nothing like trying to beat the instructors when they are driving your car to humble you...

Absolutely Bernie, perfect quote. :) I had a wonderful day on Saturday at the Extreme School, and Jackie had a similarly outstanding experience on Sunday at the Phase 1 school. BTW, I almost ran into you and Gwen in the Hardees Sunday morning as I was headed toward the coffee, but I was in my running-late-with-four-hours-of-sleep-still-wasted-from-Extreme-school mode and didn't even notice it was y'all until I saw you getting in your truck -- sorry for not saying hello.

I was completely worn out too Walter but had a wonderful experience as everyone else did. It was great to see the improvements that everyone was making -- like that almost perfect slalom John Sullivan did, lifting the inside rear wheel on each cone, just barely making it past each one. He had the whole worker crew yelling and clapping for him. For someone who just took the Phase 1 and 2 the weekend before and then drove all the way from NY to take the Extreme, he sure is on a vertical learning curve at 72-years of age. It was great to live his progress with him -- what an interesting and fun guy too. He took the Phase 1 again on Sunday and had a great day also.

Mike, Jr, and I really hit it off with the M5 since he has a special love for big and powerful cars, and we really had a battle with each other driving it -- dang, that was so much fun. I wish I could have had a second day with Mike and Tim, perhaps next time the normal 2-day extreme school could be run.

Stephen, I think that hosting this again next year should work out at least as good. I think that most everyone who went will want more, and the enthusiasm of us will have worn off on other club members too perhaps.

I agree with Chuck and Donna -- you can sign me up now for either another Extreme school (2-day version would be really nice) or the Challenge school. Jackie is going to GA Tech next year, and she’s not happy about leaving the autocross fun of the THSCC, but she’ll be up for another event too I’m sure. At least in the Atlanta area there is a lot of autox opportunity with the SCCA and the BMWCCA. Speaking of which, I was really proud to see her aggressively attack the course on Sunday’s Phase 1 event, developing that “slither” as Tim calls it. For me it was one of those “parent moments” when you get pretty emotional watching your child just do it right on the course. I’m really glad she got to experience this type of training in such a condensed format so early in her autocross career. She is really looking forward to the Motorsports Club at GA Tech, building/driving the Formula SAE car, etc.

BTW, if you want to pull out the 3 timed run autocross done at the end of the day Sunday in Phase 1, I wrote down the starting run number on your roster...I think it was run #167 in that Sunday afternoon event file. I think you could perhaps save that event file to a different name and then delete all the runs above 167? Just a thought in case someone is interested.

Finally, Stephen should take a bow for bringing this wonderful event to the THSCC and for all the nitty-gritty behind the scenes work needed to pull off a successful event! Good job Stephen!! Thanks!

P.S. Stephen, Judi was really doing well from what I could see and tell from the bus. She was really nailing the start and into the slalom. I'm sure she's going to close the performance gap between you and her. :) It was great to watch her progress. You should be really proud of her!

P.S.S. For anyone who was not at the Phase 1 at the end of the day on Sunday, you missed some of the best possible driving by two of our THSCC members. They had a championship event where you had to drive within 0.5 sec of your fastest time and not hit any cones. If you hit a cone, you were out. Slower than 0.5 sec slower, you were out. I think there were 4 or 5 left when they had to lower the time limit to 0.25 sec over to try to end the competition. The winner was Chris Suich who beat Stephen Westerfield by 0.009 seconds!!! Third place went to Don Ingerslew.

The battle between Chris and Stephen was amazing, and their times throughout the competition were within 0.2 seconds or so for each run for many runs. It was an incredible display of car control (no cones hit) coupled with consistently taking their car to the limits of the course. There could not have been a more perfect display of skill to end out the course than this one. Good job guys!

Chuck

Next time your mine Chris. I went to change my tires after that and found that my drivers side front was showing steel all the way around and the passenger side wasn't far from it. A little more rubber and I would have had you!

Great driving though Chris, and everyone else out there for that matter.

If there was another Extreme school this weekend, I'd sign up. Same goes for this Challenge school. I'd go right now. If we do this again, you can bank my entry fee early.

We'll see what happens two weeks from now, but for the moment, I am 100% convinced that this was the best possible thing I could have done for my autocrossing. It was uncanny. Every single suggestion Tim and Junior made was just money. Some of the reminders from my phase two so many years ago were really helpful too - things I'd long since forgotten in years of track driving and club racing.

Tim also provided me with some attitude adjustments. As we approached the launch for a run, we were strategizzing, and I said "well, that's the plan anyway" or something like that. And he said "No, say it to me: I'm going to go do it." Even that was instructional - I just learned that I need to work on my self-talk and be a little more confident, a little more optimistic. I think it makes a difference.

Excellent school and I would love to see the 2-day Extreme School offered in the future. It was very cool to take the school with so many of the other A-stock drivers. It was even more cool to see EVERYONE attack the course - every car was really working by the end of the day.

Because there wasn't a timer display, it's hard to say who was driving the fastest. I don't think it really matters. What matters to me is I think AS is going to be *the* most hotly contested class. I expect to see alot of postion jockeying with each run of the next event and some verrryyyyy close times. Keith Q is going to really be sorry he missed this opportunity! (not that this is a challenge to him or anything!) :nana:

Oh, and I wanted to echo Karl's comments about self-talk. I had no idea how much that affected my driving until Tim pointed it out to me. Once I got my head cleared and quit thinking about the course behind me, I actually started DRIVING!

It was a great day of learning at the school. It's amazing how during the school sessions with no pressure, how much better I drove. As soon as the competition started I could feel reverting back to old ways of not looking as far ahead, driving too fast through elements. It really took a conscious effort to fight that. A good lesson for future events.

Paging Mr. Peterson Looks like you've got a beta site for the Eric Peterson School of Trash Talk. That's it...your going down. Integra vs. Mini (crap...I need some tires). You've got your first pairing Mr. Eargle.
