After being a good little soldier for 5 years and running everything SCCA Solo has to offer, good or bad, I think I've hit my breaking point.

ProSolo is effectively going into hiatus for a 'REHAB' year, with a schedule of 6 events, with only 3 being setup as a normal ProSolo format with mirror image courses... no points for this year and those that trophied in 2006 are qualified already for the winner take all finale! Great, I'm in... big deal.

Although I like Tours, driving 9-10 hours for the closest Tour isn't worth it. For the Pros, it was, but not now.

Anyone else feel this way?

It might be time to buy a Time Trial machine.... - AB

I'm fairly bummed.

What was wrong with the Pros that required rehab? I mean everyone I've talked to says they were the deal. Much better than Tour events.

Or was that just a function of the Tours being no bueno?

ProSolo has been the read headed step child of the SCCA ever since the big sponsors went away from it.

I think the problems can be solved by $$, but expect that the SCCA will end up killing the program off after 2007 participation dwindles... which is to be expected when with the format. - AB

I came to that conclusion over a year ago :-) To compete at the Tour or Pro level was just too expensive and time consuming. It seems like the east coast was forgotten in 2006. You figure the cost of tires, travel, lodging and time from work...one Tour or Pro pays for 2 or 3 track weekends.

And there are not any divisionals that are within 6 hours travel!

This year it was 7 track events and 8 or 9 AX. Next year, I really do not see myself doing any AX. Especially since the Camaro is progressing to CMC specs.

Aaron, I'd like to see you behind the wheel of an AWD car on rally tires at a rallycross next year. Come see if we can give Mr. Allen a run for his money. NO4 is becoming a very competitive class.

Rallycross is the only type of motorsport that I was able to do at - literally - zero cost for an event. One event I rented my 325es to 2 people for $30 each. Covered my entry fee and towing gas, and there is literally zero tire wear. Something to consider :)

Same here. I did 8 HPDEs, 8 AX, and 6 RX events this year. Next year maybe 1 AX, hopefully 12 HPDEs and all the THSCC RX events.

RX is like AX with no tires to budget for. Really laid back and lots of fun. I love it and look forward to each one.

The SCCA's decision effectively ends my hopes of going to Topeka next year. Doing both the Pro Finale and Nats made it "worth the time" but I won't be able to do 2 Pros now so I'm out.

That sucks. FTSCCA!!!!!

I think we are talking about a different level of competition here :-) It is hard to equate a National event to a 30-40 person RX. Correct me if I am wrong Aaron, but once you get hooked competing against the best in the country, it is hard to step away.

Only having trophied at Tours and Pros and getting my butt handed to me at Nationals, I still miss it.

I told myself after barely participating in '05 that I'd hit all the THSCC events in '06. And then go to Nats in '07.

I'm wishing I had started everything a year earlier, but I'm sticking to the plan. The only addition to the plan is the new podium I want to build for the NCAC.

I was hoping to run at FedEx, looks like that's even hosed for me. So I'm left with Walnut Ridge, Huntsville and Ft. Myers being the closest.

Any suggestions on which of those two are worth packing the car for?

Actually, I guess, Devens isn't really any further. And I've got family up there. Good friends in Chicago so I suppose Milwaukee doens't have to be out of the equation.

Devens is a haul. On paper it doesn't look that bad, but in reality with traffic it's brutal. I've been there twice and I don't think the site is worth the drive.

Ft. Myers concrete is great and you can't beat the weather. I don't remember off hand, but it was around a 10-11 hour drive towing.

Walnut Ridge is about the easiest drive. I like the site a lot. The surface has mixed asphalt types with good grip and the host region is by FAR the friendliest most accomodating group I have ever run with. The site and nearby hotels are located in a DRY county, so BYOB or you'll be driving 20+ miles to get beer like Bryan and I.

Milwaukee I have heard good things about, but have never been there.

It's a shame Peru is not on there...

If I had to pick two, it would be Ft. Myers and Walnut Ridge. - AB

Well, when those 30-40 people include some of the best rallyxers in the country...

too include at our most recent event "the 2005 SCCA rally champion" not to knock autoX and national competition but try it and then judge. image if we spent some money on a car where VK might be in the standings.

I am fairly certain that the SouthEast events that are listed as TBA are NOT going to be Ft. Myers. The rumor is that it will be in South Georgia at a new-ish site. Ft. Myers lost the ability to hold timed 'competition' events starting in Jan from what I hear.

As far as my 07 schedule is concerned. I am not sure what I will be doing. When I first read about the ProSolo changes, I thought I would just skip this whole season. But now I am thinking I will try to get to two ProSolos and zero tours. This will allow me to run the Pro 'finale' and Nationals in Sept, while only taking two weekends away from home during the year. That is a LARGE decrease over the 8 weekends (not counting Nats) that I was away at tours and Pros this year. :)

One problem is that the Southeast TBA date conflicts with One Lap of America, so I will have to do the DC and Great Lakes region ProSolos if I try to do two events.

We will see.

This could be an odd year for me. I may skip a Tour event and pay the $100 fee to run Nationals. If I want to run the ProFinale, I'm already qualified with a year end trophy from 2006.

So I may not do any events and just show up to Nationals. ;)

I know Howard Duncan is telling us that if the events or '07 don't go well, the program may be scrapped, but I think after 2006 having the best attendance for ProSolo since it's creation, they should think about scrapping the 2007 REHAB schedule and revamping everything for 2008. - AB
