This could be an odd year for me. I may skip a Tour event and pay the $100 fee to run Nationals. If I want to run the ProFinale, I'm already qualified with a year end trophy from 2006.

So I may not do any events and just show up to Nationals. ;)

I know Howard Duncan is telling us that if the events or '07 don't go well, the program may be scrapped, but I think after 2006 having the best attendance for ProSolo since it's creation, they should think about scrapping the 2007 REHAB schedule and revamping everything for 2008. - AB

I agree. I think the 2007 ProSolo series should be scrapped 100%. Bring it back in 08.

I also am upset about how they are allowing year end and finale trophy winners to automatically qualify for the finale. I drove in FIVE ProSolos last year (3 in SS and 2 in SM2). Based on those five events points totals I chose to drive in SM2 at the finale (in my stock car) because I was much closer to a year end trophy in SM2. Anyway, I drove my ass off and finished 4th at the finale and 4th for the season in SM2 (One spot out of the trophies... remember, this is in a SS car!!!). But, had I chosen to drive in SS, I would have trophied at the finale but not for the year. So, my decision to go for the long shot and try to win a series trophy in SM2 is now penalizing me by not getting that automatic invite to the finale this year. Had I known then what I know now, I would most certainly have chosen to drive in SS, so I could skip trying to get to two 'ProSolos' this year. GRRRR.

I think it should be all year end trophy winners are invited back for the finale, no invites for finale only trophies and then invite anyone who attends ONE event this year.

I got lucky and trophied at the Finale too, even after not adjusting to the site real well. I think that what people did last year should have no effect on this season. If they want participation, make it that anyone who attends one event in '07 qualifies. Honestly, knowing that the Pro Finale will be Fri/Sat again and B-Stock runs Thurs/Fri, the odds of me even going to the Finale would be slim to none. - AB

Welcome. Might I point you to Craigslist, where I've found listings for 89 Civic Sis for $1600, E36 325s for $3K, and excellent $4-$5000 tow vehicles. In Charlotte.

Or just put an accusump in the Celica and go go go.....

I have thought about this and it's a possibility that I throw and Accusump in it and run full course. It certainly won't be as fun in stock form.

The other thought is to go ahead and buy a track car. I'm spending over $5-6k on autocross when I include tires, travel, entry fees, hotels. If I sink that into a semi purpose built HPDE car. Hmmmm - AB

The other thought is bringing out the 850 wagon to VIR and passing people with a grocery getter. That would be entertaining as well ;) - AB

Then after you buy it. You'll still spend $5-6k on tires (and other wear and tear parts), upgrades, travel, entry fees, hotels. I stopped counting $$$ just to do 8 events. It was easier to delude myself into thinking it isn't that expensive...

Nah. I won't make the mistake of buying a heavy beast. Light cars are easier on tires, brakes and all consumables. For my Celica, and Accusump is $300 and brakes ran me a grand total of $190 with pads and fluid. I could run on MX's probably for 8 events or more... :)

I've also thought about buying a roundy round machine. Living in Charlotte rules for that stuff. - AB

Aaron: In Charlotte right now: http://charlotte.craigslist.org/car/244431028.html

93 Civic with Type R swap: $3500. Lowest price I've ever seen. Get it and pass everyone at VIR.

Roundy round? Noooooooooo....the horror. 8)

I'm all about you coming to play again on track. It's silly season, so finding something built, TT legal, and streetable should not be too tall of an order. Look at the NASA TT rules (WAY different than the THSCC and SCCA rules) and find something that will fit nicely in both.

Aaron -- you need to find something similar to what I found. I got a SSC Mazda Protege (former National Runoffs winner) with many many spares for only $2500. It is fully legal and a blast to drive. Also, passing by high dollar Porsches this weekend in my little family sedan was a ton of fun! I had more than one person ask me what I had done to the car to make it so quick. I loved being able to say that it was a stock car. :)

Of course the dollar$/min seat time ratio on track is much better than AX. I spent less than $400 on tires to do 8 events this year. However I did spend about $900 on just brakes. Imagine what they would cost if my car would do more than 110 at VIR?

I don't worry about how much it costs. That's why I go to work everyday. I can't take it with me to the grave, and I sure as hell ain't leaving it for anyone else!

Stock? NASCAR calls what they run "stock" too. You mean the engine is stock right? :P

It is a Showroom Stock car. The engine is stock and most of the suspension is stock. The SCCA did allow for Mazda Proteges to up their spring rate by 50lbs to make them more competitive with the Neons back in the late 90s, so my car does have 50lbs extra stiffness in the springs. Add in the safety equipment and now some interior removal and you have my car. So, yes... it is essentially stock. -- oh, sticky tires and hawk blue brake pads and an adjustable sway bars might help make it go quicker also ;)
