Don't go off and spend a whole lot of money in the offseason. According to the December FasTrack:

Quote:
SOLO STREET PREPARED CATEGORY
- The previously published proposal to move the Lexus IS300 and various BMW E30, E36 and E46 models out of DSP to CSP or BSP has been
withdrawn, in anticipation of a larger action (see below).
- The SPAC has been directed to provide a draft SP class restructuring recommendation, including specific Appendix A classes and listings, to the
SEB for review. This will provide more uniformity of update/backdate line listings within models and classing according to "best of breed"
principles. The proposed effective date for these changes would be 1/1/2008.

Here, here! Its about damn time they did this. Its not ONLY the E36 BMW's that are split up. There are lots o honda's and other stuff that needs addressing as well.

So does this mean that you won't be able to put a 1.8 liter motor from a 99 Miata into an earlier model now? I am trying to understand exactly what is said.

I'm not sure what you don't understand. All it says it that the SPAC will do some restructuring and it will be significant in some ways. As for exactly what you can and can't do, nothing is being said. And I think it is highly unlikely that they'll obsolete so many nationally competitive Miatas.

It also says they will be changing about the update/backdate listings. To be honest that is the only rule that keeps me out of CSP. STS2 is not for me and swapping a motor from a late model Miata into mine just costs too damn much money.

If anything, there will be more stuff merged on to same lines rather than cars split up, I believe. So in that vein you're screwed, I reckon.

Ohhhh please...

Take a look at what Jeremy Cox can do in a freakin' 1.6L Miata. Jeremy was 3rd PAX and 3rd RAW in a 1.6L, Viscous LSD Miata at the NCAC. I think if you would have slapped a set of 15x7's with Azenis on there it would have been STS2 legal.

ALSO! 99-00 Miata motors are getting DIRT cheap. I can find SEVERAL for less than a set of tires for your Crossfire.

Im hoping the update/backdate is aimed at getting simlar car modles in the same SP class. E36 BMW's, Some Civics, some obscure Subarus, and some VW's. Hopefully it will make for some even more interesting combos with the absolute lightest chassis with the absolute best motor.

This should clear out some room for the high powered FWD's to have a chance.

Well with aspirations of running at National level events, even if the driver could do hack it (which I don't think I can) the car would be well off pace of Miatas with motor swaps. Hell if the Miata doesn't sell, I will be back next year with custom shock valving and 225 series tires instead of the 205s I ran this year in ES.
I was planning to run the Crossfire more on premise next year than anything since so many people said it couldn't hack it.

For the record, I didn't say it couldn't hack it, I just couldn't remember what was said that was *wrong* with it. The "wrong" was the 19" wheels and the fact that there wasn't any r-compound rubber for them. Obviously that's changing...

Wes,

I take it this means its safe to plan on the E46 330i to be in DSP next year with the soonest change time being 2008.

Thanks for the post!

Chuck

Speaking of restructuring, Rick Ruth published his 2007 PAX numbers. The CSP bump makes my hiney hurt.
