For those who are interested...

Yes, it's still very early on day one, but I thought I'd go ahead and start a thread since many of us will be receiving updates throughout the event.

Here's what I have thus far:
After morning runs, Eric is in second behind Chris Harvey (who is driving the new Solstice on GIGANTIC Hoosier - 285's, I believe). Darren Disimo is in third.

Jonathan Roberts, driving Donnie's AS Subaru is up on the field by about 6 tenths.

Donnie doesn't run until 6th heat, so no update on his status, nor do I have any update on other Tarheelers. I'm sure Eric will have more for me this afternoon.

I was hoping Adam would be calling you with an update since Eric must be waiting until his afternoon runs to call me with any more info!!!!

An update from sccaforums - HS has run and ES is currently running. (Rob Carpenter is in 2nd). I haven't looked up the run order, so I'm not sure when our other Tarheelers are running.

On that forum, they are saying word is that the courses are TIGHT and competitors aren't very happy. Eric did not describe it that way at all - he said they were fast with lots of transitions. (at least, that's how it walked)

Conditions are damp and about 60, but improving.

Glad to see Eric is doing so well thus far. Hope all the other Tarheelers are doing well also.

Morning results are posted:
http://scca.com/_FileLibrary/File/Pro%2 ... y%20AM.pdf

Here's the short version:
Jonathan Roberts is 1st in AS

Aaron is 5th in BS

Eric is 2nd in CS

GH Sharp is 4th in GS

Looks like the Franks may be having car trouble as Chuck is running 10th in GS and Donna is 13th in L1. Or, it could be that one side of the course if giving them problems since they both have DNFs on the same side.

In ASP, Mike 'Jr' Johnson is 1st with Rod McGeorge in 2nd

Donnie is 5th in CSP

Adam is 3rd in SM2 (way to go Adam!!!)

Sadly, Feinberg was unable to make the trip.

Thanks for the update Chris. Glad to hear that Adam, Aaron, Donnie and Eric are representing Tarheel well!!!!

Hate to hear that the Franks are having a hard time.

And what happened to Jim F? Is he going to be able to make it for Nats?

Early afternoon update:
Eric has slipped to 3rd (.047 out of 2nd) behind yet another Solstice. They are calling for rain overnight, so he may not have an opportunity to improve tomorrow. But would still finish 2nd in end of year points.

Jonathan is 1.1 seconds up on AS.

Sounds like Chuck was having problems finding the course this morning. Donna is driving a new car - someone's HS Mini.

And for those who are not aware, Adam is driving a *STOCK* Corvette in SM2 - and in the trophies!!! (kick ass driving, but someone want to explain that logic to me?)

He did that only because he has a better chance of getting a season trophy in SM2 and would have had to drive his ass off to get one in SS. He tried getting a SM2 car to drive for the Finale, but I guess everyone was afraid that he would beat them in their car!! He actually qualified for both classes but chose SM2 simply because of the want for a season trophy.

He will be in SS for Nats though.

For a lot of reasons outside of driving, I'm having a really shitty week. I was hoping that going out and kicking some ass would help cure my other woes, but it seems not to be. My raw left side time is as good as anyone, but I red-lit it. And another left. And I coned two more lefts. So I have nothing there. And rain looks somewhat likely for the morning. I haven't driven very well on the right for some reason, so I'm doubly screwed.

I'd be very surprised if Jonathan didn't win at this point. It seems unlikely that early tomorrow morning (his heat is fairly early) will be faster than this afternoon, and even if it is, it won't be enough faster that anyone can catch him. Sweeeeeeeeeeeet.

Eric drove his butt off today, but that Solstice is just too much. Chris Harvey is a great driver, but he only has three runs in a Solstice before today and the car he's driving is a stock car with the exhaust cut off. Gonna be hard for him to improve in the morning, I think. :(

I know Junior is up on Rod in ASP, but no idea on what happened with the Frank's or GH. I think Buckley is in fourth now, but don't quote me on that.

Well, looks like Eric fell back to fifth. Not sure he picked up any time, and obviously other folks did. :(

Jonathan won AS and did so in convincing fashion. Most of the AS guys picked up time, but Jonathan picked up way more and won by 2.2s. He sure didn't get all of that on the launch. :) So that's a ProSolo championship, too, as Jonathan won all three events he's driven in this year (he's taught some Evo schools, but otherwise his only autocrosses were the DC Pro, Wendover Pro, and this event). Things look pretty good for Nationals!

I still have to drive this afternoon, but it looks like we have a blown shock on the rear of the Spyder. Damn I hate Koni.

Heard GH was doing well, but didn't ge a chance to follow it. I believe Buckley fell back to fifth.

Final results are posted.

AS - Johnathan Roberts in the Barnes, Inc. STi gets the championship by a land slide.
BS - Aaron Buckley in a trophy position with a 4th place finish.
CS - Eric Peterson one spot out of the trophies in 5th place.
GS - GH Sharp with yet another championship.
GS - Charles Frank with a 10th place finish.
CSP - Donnie Barnes had a 6th place finish in the 3rd current/former Barnes mobile in the event.
SM2 - Adam Breakey rebounded after a trying second heat on day 1 to finish one spot out of the trophies in 4th. Keep in mind, that is in a STOCK Z06!!
L1 - Donna Frank finished 13th in what appears to have been a tough Ladies class.

Congratulations to all the Tarheel members who made the trip!!

Wasn't the weekend most of us wanted!
The venue was very low traction, very large pretty open simple courses- biggest prosolo courses I've run. Really favored the cars that could get the HP down.
We couldn't keep the back end of the car under us the first runs. I spun the first three runs so badly I couldn't figure out where the course was afterwards and just skipped the 4th run the car was so undrivable. Reminded me of the first Greenville event. I blamed it on the fact the course was wet, It had poured all Thursday and the winds were so bad the Xmas tree was in danger of blowing over so they cancelled practice starts entirely. There were tornado warnings in the area. The rains started again as sprinkles Thurs AM. Donna's dry runs showed it wasn't the weather as she also spun badly even tho I thought I had tightened the back end up with shock adjustment, as much as we'd use at a wet local event. In desparation I tried adjusting the shocks more durring Donna's runs but was having trouble doing it in the available couple minutes. Adam tried to ge the second side but burned his hand on the exhaust. Between the next two runs Aaron volunteered to attempt to adjust them again being familiar with the Celi shocks he turned them full soft, about 8 clicks softer than we ever used before. That tamed the rear down enough to get thru the course.
The afternoon runs were like starting over since we learned nothing in the AM except how to spin like a top. We were also gun shy! The Celi stood no chance against the Minis on that course, so we were both at the bottom at the end of the day. Leaving the event back to our hotel the car developed a familiar sound: a bearing going away in our third tranny in the car. The end of Nationals for the Celi if we hoped to limp it home???
Today we both drove Jeff Jacobs MiniS, Donna hadn't driven it since last year and I had never driven it. It's a well set up car, GH won GS in it, but 4 runs were not enough for us to become familiar enough with it to move up the order.
Donna was already going to drive Jeff's HS Mini in the championships next week and I'll now be codriving the same Mini in HS open. THANKS JEFF!!!
It wasn't a great deal better for the rest of the THSCC people. Jim F was a no show, Aaron and Adam both trophied down the order, Eric and Donnie finished out of the trophies.
It was a valiant effort by all, but not the surface we had been promised. :(
Next week will be "interesting..." stay tuned.
