Richard hit the nail on the head. The rest of the contributors of the thread are talking about the class and its relevance; you're talking about you. Maybe this is why you're taking the opposing (and correct) viewpoint as personal criticism.

This thing needs a poll :) Simply 'yes' to keep it or 'no' eliminate it. I think there should be no 'I don't care'. If you don't care, don't vote.

Now this poll is just that, a poll. I think an actual vote should be put on the Christmas party ballot. - AB

I think the problem Brice is that you are battling with some who have strong opinions on this topic and you are just not going to change their minds. My suggestion is to email the autocross VPs and ask their opinions? Is it likely that TIR is going to disappear next year? I don't know.

I have no problem eliminating X class, either. If we did that, I think it would be good for folks to be able to opt to "waive" points, though, so that if they do and they win, the guy who finished second (assuming he didn't also waive points) gets first place points. As I understand it the whole reason that class was created was for folks who might happen to be pretty good don't come in and "ruin" someone's points chase. I think allowing for that is a good thing.

I like that we publish PAX results for everyone, but I don't even care if the FTPax trophy exists. That's probably the only score sheet that really matters to *me*, but I don't care if I take home wood or not.

Why can't I be competitive and not buy a bunch of stuff for my car that I will only use once a month 8 times or so a year?

Because, to be truely competitive, even in TIR, you need the right equipment. And for TIR that means, Azenis, Khumo MX, or Toyo Advan Neovas that are used ONLY for autocross, which still means buying a seperate set of wheels and maybe a trailer.

Part of the reason I'm not as competitive in STS2 as Jim F, aside from experience and my total lack of an inner alien, is that I can't afford to buy a new set of shaved Azenis for every big event. I buy one set a year. They are used mostly just for autocross. But, if I have to drive to an event on them or to work for a week between events, I do so.

My point is, you do what you have to do to have fun. If that means spending a mint on autocross, then so be it. I only ran TIR for a few races and decided that I wanted to improve as a driver, so I went to open class. Now I'm competing against a VERY good driver and I feel that I have improved this year because of it.

Competition breeds improvement, not just the need for the top equipment.

Plus, from a T&S standpoint, getting rid of TIR would make one less class and there for one less thing to worry about. NOV and TIR have more car marking issues than any other class. It has to do with drivers not knowing if they should just have TIR 42 on their car or TIR FS 42 or FST 42, even after it has been explained to them.

My mistake was in talking too much, I've made my opinion on the matter, the more I talk to the more I left room for myself to be misinterpretted, which there has been a lot of. Many incorrect things have been read into my statements, I opened myself up to that by continuing to talk in trying to correct those. I feel that to accomodate stock cars on stock tires, TIR should remain. All the other stuff I should have just let go. . .

I wish these forums were capable of the type of discussion that other forums I frequent are, but its clear that this is a very different group of people from what I'm used to dealing with and these forums are moderated differently (this thread would have been locked on page 3 or 4 in the other forums I read, and several members, including myself would have been reprimanded, while it seems much the norm here). Before its misinterpretted, I am NOT dissing the moderators, its just a different way of handling things, and you guys work most stuff out on your own.

I apologize to those I offended, particularly Bernie, I never meant any disrespect, and didn't mean to imply any even, I apologize for being careless and hope that you won't hold it against me. I'm going to stick to face to face interaction from now on, text conversations are the easiest kind to misunderstand.

The last I heard when I asked if we actually have bylaws. It was scribbled on a cocktail napkin over many drinks. That napkin was donated to the Smithsonian. Every thing else is just made up as we go. This also should be added to The Topics of Death list. Never ask about the Club Bylaws...
