I've got a question. I ran in TIR, and asked specifically at the bus if I could run with an STS pax (I have an HS car with a cold air intake and thats all) and was told that I could not, and that I would have to run with a DSP pax. I don't see this as unfair in the least bit, makes perfect sense, thats what the ST(S, X, U) classes are for.

However, in reading the results, I noticed that Keith Quistorff (XP), Maria Mayorga (LAD), Carlton Whitehead (NOV), and Brad Thompson (NOV) were all allowed to run in a pax class and use and ST(S, X, U) pax. What gives? Were these all just oversights/didn't even know about thems by T&S, or was I supposed to be allowed to run with an STS pax. I understand the novices, they probably just didn't know what class they should have run in, but the others should know better. I only ask b/c I would have trophied in TIR (3rd) had I been allowed to run an STS pax, none of those who ran those pax's were even close to trophies, so if it was simply an oversight to let them run with those pax's, no harm done, just thought I'd point out an inconsistency.

And before this turns into the last time I posted on the forums, I'M NOT CRITICIZING ANYONE, I'M NOT SAYING THERE WAS ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE EVENT, IT WAS VERY WELL DONE AND I AM ONLY TRYING TO HELP, NOT START FLAMES.

Brice, in the other "PAX" classes, it's perfectly okay to run race tires. TIR is the only PAX class that penalizes the non-ST* classes.

To clarify, it would be unfair to the bulk of the TIR class competitors if ST* indexed cars were allowed, since the PAX/RTP indeces for the ST* classes are adjusted for using street tires, while all the non-ST* class indeces are not.

In my situation, for example (I ran an STX classed car in the indexed X class), the other competitors in my class were all on R compound tires and classed/PAX'd accordingly, so the PAX index accurately reflects the prep levels of our individual cars.

ah, makes sense, thanks for the clarification. I'm not angry about it or anything, just curious,m I'll be sure to swap back to my stock intake for future events anyways, so I can use that friendly HS pax instead. . .

Yeah, HS vs DSP is a BIG penalty- especially for an intake. For better or worse, those are the rules.

never asked anyone to break the rules for me, just asked for a clarification, which I got, and thanked him for

sorry if I sounded like I was mad at you or anything, I understand the difference now, thank you for the clarification. I misunderstood the reasons that were given to me at the event as to why I couldn't run an STS pax, I thought you couldn't run an ST pax in ANY indexed class, it is clear to me now though that that only applies for TIR (which is unique to tarheel anyways, if I'm not mistaken).

Brice,

Just to add to the discussion, I have read of other clubs (California I think), have something like a TIR class and they do allow ST* classes, but they have to figure out a special PAX value just for ST* in their TIR class. I am sure that figuring out what value to use is a can of worms all by itself.

Or just leave the CAI on and run in STS.
