If I were you, I'd be in SS. How can you let that thing sit in the garage and drive a damn Mini? It's a girlie car!

Here, Here, I agree! I took the Vette to the Chick School for some fun runs during lunch. What a blast!!! Bernie, take the Vette, chase the boys, and give me back my girlie car. WAIT! Aren't tires and wheels for the Vette 2 GRAND? Welcome to the Mini!

Wow. For that price, you could have an STi well prepared in STU. :D I didn't realize tires for the Vettes were so expensive (355 V710s?). Is it 2k for RComps?

Can SS cars come to STU, or are they part of the exclusion list? It would be interesting to see some of the AS/SS cars in Street Touring Ultimate.... if they can get in the class due to exclusion, I don't think the class is too 'Ultimate'.

Don't Worry Bernie, I hope to be back out there for the second half of the season, so we can beat up on each other...

(assuming I have not sold the Del Sol and if thats the case I will be in G Stock)

Hmmm... Well, you have a point there don't ya?

I'm still having sticker shock for the $750 I'm paying for tires that I only get 80 runs out of.

That's almost $10 per run. But we're not supposed to be calculating these types of things and wondering if it's worth it.

The mini is cheap to run, about $450 for r comps. the vette is about a grand for the same tires. and another grand for rims. If I chase Adam I'd be liable for that brokeback mountain thing. I'd rather chase women. I'll bring the vette out when Remchak brings out his ZO6 and stops driving that girly car :D :D

2k is a wee bit of an exaggeration. R-comps for a C5 are around half that. Used wheels for C5's sell all the time on the CorvetteForum. Too bad wagon wheels won't work for Bernie's Vette. Those can be had for less than 300 a set. I bet later model C5 wheels can be had for a little more. Used O.E.M. Z06 wheels seem to go in the 6-800 range. I would think the regular C5 wheels would be less.

Not that I have any room to talk autoxing a CRX in lieu of the Corvette. Light FWD cars are easier to autox IMO. At least for a beginner like myself.

Would be nice to have a street touring class for the vettes to play in. Maybe the SCCA can create a STU2 class.

Instead of STU2 how about "Street Touring Fast Unlimited"?

:D :D

(edit - I'm just having fun w/ acronyms here and this isn't directed at anyone!!!)

Notice I said a grand for the tires, the rims won't cost anything if I were to use the OEM stuff, but if you spend the money on the tires it's foolish not to get the light weight rims and theres another grand in those. The Rota Slipsteams for the Mini were under $600. 450 for the tires gets you going for half the price :deadhorse:

I know this pain. The RX-8 tires are $1k prior to mounting. We get two National events out of them. Good thing they are paying contingency. Now our old set with about 60 runs will become our 'local' events tires, so there will be no more issues like the fiasco at Laurinburg on those crap as A3S04's. - AB

Sorry Bernie. I didn't realize you had no desire to use O.E.M. wheels. 2k would be doing well with tires and lightweight wheels.

I just ordered some Nitto R2s for track for my Z06. $1,000. Roughly the same for V710, RA1. About $1,200 for Hoosiers R6 or Michelin Cups. I expect the R2 to last me about 4-6 weekends. So figure $200/weekend in rubber costs... I thnk crack would be a cheaper fix...

Cf always has an abundance of used rims in the parts section. My extra set of Z06 wheels were originals off another 02 and came with the Supercar tires that had 6/32" tread for $900 shipped. You have to look around and you can even find the rare magnesium wheels for the non-Z06 models. But you can get wagon wheels all day long for $200-$400 or Z06 rims for $600-$800. If you don't care about getting bunped to ASP you could run Grand Sport wheels.

Chris, Bernie, Steve. Come on bring those toys out for Sanford and let's have some fun. I'll sign up. It should be a fast course based on the event chairs. Y'all should kick my butt since I haven't run around/over a cone since last fall.

fine a cone fest it is. but workers be warned, last time i had the Z06 @ Sanford i was off in the grass pretty damn quick and spinning. and given that i put the BMW in the grass last month i should be prepared for one ugly day.

and yes Bernie while my bmw is a girlie car at least it doesn't belong to my wife :P :P :P see ya'll in Sanford

"... based on the event chairs".

Sanford will be no faster than Danville was last Sunday!
Don't worry about a "conefest". When one is only using 10 cones, you shouldn't hit too many!
Leaving the runway at Sanford isn't too bad, except for a few places that are really bad. We'll avoid those and hopefully keep everyone on the runway.
We may not be able to design a course as good as Danville, but we are trying. The narrow taxiway with deep ditches and narrow crossovers make it harder. The sealer is a problem too.
Our dash plaque won't compare to Mike's either.
