you can't make everybody happy, particularly those who don't read your whole posts. I made very clear that the event in Danville was the best event I've ever been to and that things ran more smoothly than any event I've ever attended. I've been to several autocrosses before, and never had a situation like the one yesterday, so I felt it worth mentioning.
Never said it was completely broken, and I suggested a fix to the problem I saw, which was lambasted by others which confused me, b/c I couldn't for the life of me figure out how it would have hurt anything. Not sure where I was trying to solve world peace or enact any sweeping change that would in any way affect anybody negatively, I merely solicited suggestions about a wheel to indicate what heat we were on, something that SOMEONE thought was a good idea, considering other clubs in the area use such a device (not to mention the few positive reponses I got on these forums).
As you said, first impressions are hard to break, and unfortunately my first impressions of the THSCC forums are that they are full of a bunch of people who have a snap reaction at the slightest criticism, even if its perfectly valid. There are also some who love to try and make us feel guilty for participating in the events and not making it our full time job. There are also some very nice people who realize that this is the case and try and stop it, and there are those who put in TONS of work behind the scenes and are never recognized for it (and for them I am very thankful). Unfortunately, in a web forum format, negativity usually wins out (or at least speaks out more). So you can guess which people I heard more from.
In this club:
- If you have a suggestion -- be the first to state "I want to help implement" or "Is there someone I can help do <insert suggestion here>", else, thread flame
- Volunteer to help ALL THE TIME. Then, you get the *right* to talk... sometimes.
- Help out.
In this club, DON'T do the following UNLESS you want to be flamed:
- Come up with reasonable things that MIGHT be better, and just post them on a forum without trying to implement them. You have basically just offended the person that setup the event, and have done nothing to help out.
- Post the day after the event about an issue with the event. This will always lead to the next 400 page flame fest until the next event starts, where everyone will complain about something else in ANOTHER 400 page thread.
- Show up, run, go home early, and post about how things suck.
- Post about how this/that sucked on the course
Basically, to ME, it seems that if you aren't helping out and setting up the events, you are given 0-room to talk and 'complain'. I will admit I have not read your thread, but I have my own that I have endured through. It feels like a 'trade' job where you have to earn your right to any/everything, but once you do, you *can* be generally accepted... or a least in my case, tolerated.

Regardless, I feel you pain. This seems to happen every year, and there is honestly nothing you can do other than just let it go, and help out in the future.
For me, I like to just run faster than others, let them call me a hack, and take home wood. I let them 'have their words'.

If you can suffer through the forums, there are actually some really awesome people in the club.... and for some reason, a few of the people who will jump on you the hardest are acutally some of the nicest guys.
Who knows. I only read the forums for the rallyX guys that are always laid back... maybe you should give that a try.

Wrong forum if you think that will happen easily.
NASIOC people rule. The REAL people here rule. The FORUM community here sucks.
