Mike, did that will count toward a work assigment? We will be there with the enclosed trailer.

Setting this as a work assignment means that the club would be liable for the children. For this event, let's just keep this as an informal gathering of parents and see how it works out. If the parents want to set up a "watch my kid while I do my runs" thing independant of the club then this is fine.

In that case made it non official by requesting that for couple with children
at the event only one of the 2 need to sign up for work assigment.

It can't work that way Patrice, for it excludes those without kids too. If I bring my dog and I watch some other dogs can I get out of my work assignment? I'd say no as well. - AB

Dude, your dog is big enough to entertain himself, just let him run loose. :)

Dog are a different story even if it might be family for you. You can put a leash on them and attach it to your trailer.
Will you do that to your kid? I don't think so.
If this club want to help the family coming to the event, asking only one of the 2 to work will be of a big help.
But so far I know you have no kid so that's not your problem.

I believe there is a bit of "lets crawl (no pun intended) before we walk or run on this". Lets not torpedo this before it gets started.

So, I propose this thread has no...

"I don't want to pay taxes to build schools as I don't have kids"
"pets are not kids"
"kids are not pets"
"I don't want to take care of your kids"
"I wouldn't let you take care of my kids if you were the last person on the face of the earth"
etc.

I know that takes all of the fun out of it. 8)

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

Forgot to say...

I can't take advantage of this at Sanford this weekend, but I personally think it is a good thing and maybe it will help get Tina back out Autocrossing in the future.

Family fun time is a fantastic thing that I enthusiastically support. If it brings wives and kids out, then this is a benefit for the club. What I do not support is the notion that bringing your kids entitles one have a get out of work free card.

I understand that having children at events doesn't make one's life any easier, but this simply isn't something that the majority of the people that attend events undertake. To deprive the course and bus of workers because the few bring their whole families would be a hardship on the many and would adversely affect how smoothly the event is run.

The Tarheel Sports Car Club has a long tradition of excellence that I do not want to see diluted by the lack of members actively participating to help the event. This still is a volunteer club, and we do not want to have tourists show up, drive and leave without contributing to the event.

I believe that the "family pavilion" area would foster friendships and would also make having families at events less stressful due to the shared responsibility of having children there. But I do not believe that others should have to work harder due to the non participation of these attendees towards the event as a whole. One can easily imagine a slight resentment towards members that aren't inclined to work at events because they're taking care of their children which they're supposed to be doing anyway . Also, because one can pawning off the luxury of having children at events onto the shoulders of others is simply wrong.

to be fair, i don't think anyone is suggesting that someone would get out of work simply by bringing your kids to an event. i believe that suggestion was only if you were one of the four that promised to man the corral for one heat.

still, my reasoning for not supporting the kiddie corral worker position is two fold...

1-we don't want to open the club up to the liability of caring for children in any form that may lead one to think that the kiddie corral is run by thscc. i think making a kiddie corral worker position would do just that.

2-we often don't know how many workers we have until just registration. parents that will rely on the kiddie corral will need much more lead time than that, and i just don't think we can gaurantee it.

i suppose i could add a third reason...i honestly think that it will be much better run if left in the hands of parents, and not in the hands of the officers (no offense to the officers by any means).

Dude, you really have no idea what we're talking about here. Go start a new thread or follow up with me personally if you want to crap some more.

Now, any volunteers? This isn't going to work without at least 4 warm bodies who can promise to be there for a heat.

Mike, can you be a smidge more specific about what I don't know and what I'm crapping on?

No. This thread is for organization purposes only.

I have asked Richard to split all the "discussion" posts to a separate thread. I would like to respond in public but not on this thread.

Per Mike's request, I just split these posts off this thread http://www.thsccforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=4691

Enjoy discussing this topic!!
