The April 30th autocross in Sanford, The Second Annual "Never Give Up" Autocross -- Slalomania II, will continue the tradition set at last year's successful event. A portion of the proceeds of this event, including the entry fee, will go to the V Foundation ( http://www.jimmyv.org ) to help fight cancer.

Everyone in attendance will get their four runs in as usual for season points and event trophies will be awarded before the Main Event. Afterwards, the real fun begins.

We're going to have a bracket race, limited to 32 entries. The cost of entry into this bracket race is a minimum $25 donation to the V Foundation; we would appreciate that checks be made out to THSCC so that the we can deliver your donation on the club's behalf. Unfortunately, please don't pay via Paypal because they deduct a fee for this that would adversely affect our donation and would complicate things.

Competitors will be allowed one run to help dial their car in (in addition to the previous runs driven earlier). After this, competitors will put their dial in on their car. The dial in is *real* time, not PAX time by the way. Drivers will be paired up at check-in in the morning, so you all have the chance to start the smacktalk early on. If you have a preferred pairing, let that be known either here on the board or when you pay.

The rules are simple: Break out and go home. DNF means a breakout. The closest driver to their dial in stays and moves up the ladder. We're also not allowing "cheating" by setting a two minute dial in and letting you park the car on course with stopwatch in hand either. (If both drivers in the pair break out, the closest to their dial-in advances.)

It's all about consistency, anyone can win. And the winner gets both a fancy trophy and the right to talk smack for the next year, not to mention seven extra runs for twenty-five bucks. Currently Mike Whitney owns the exclusive bragging rights.

Afterwards, time permitting, fun runs will proceed as usual.

There will also be a 50/50 raffle to benefit the V Foundation, tickets will be $5 each, maximum five tickets per person. These tickets will be sold during registration, see me in front of the bus. In fairness to everyone, the winner of this raffle will be announced just before the bracket race if you're not participating in that and want to head on home.

Hope to see you all there!

Mike Whitney, the former champeen of the bracket race, has earned the role of working start in the first heat and will harass every participant. The winner of the first half of the bracket will do the same for the second heat.

Half full in only two days, not too shabby guys!

I have a concern here... In looking at the current entry list, we're at 154 drivers and the event is still open. So we're talking about the normal autox, the bracket race AND fun runs? I know we have the "system" down, but I think we're reaching saturation here. I would recommend that in autox's that have special event's tagged with them that we go back to holding down the entry to 120-140.

Just my 2 cents here....

We had about the same number before the L'burg event and didnt break 150. I know of at least 4-5 folks on the list that WONT be there.

We should be fine.

Also, keep in mind that fun runs aren't guaranteed. Fun runs wouldn't happen until the bracket race is done anyway and going off what happened at last years event, a good number of people left during the bracket race so there wasn't much interest in fun runs at that point.

Is it a possibility to open the gates before 7:30. Daylight is at 6:30. If we run the regular course, pitting will be a nightmare and any addition time we can get to walk the course would be appreciated.

I agree with Jim that pitting is going to be a nightmare.

I too would like the early open gates. Either my wife or I could work the gate extra early shift if needed.

I know the site very well and with the 165 people preregistered I would like to get there as early as possible to get a good pitting spot. As for running an event I don't have the time needed to devote to running an event with everything else going on in my life right now. All I did was agree with Jim on getting there really early.

Hmmm, time to surf the net and fuss a little, but not actually lend a helping hand?

Shall I continue?

This is an event to benefit charity, if it's like last year, a fair portion of all entry fees will go to the V-Foundation. If I show up, pay, get 3 runs and know we helped out the V-Foundation, then I go home happy!

I don't see where you mentioned anything about getting there early. All I see is a complaint about something that you have little idea of how it will be laid out.

We've ran 150 people through this site before with no real issues.
