Hmmm, time to surf the net and fuss a little, but not actually lend a helping hand?

Shall I continue?

This is an event to benefit charity, if it's like last year, a fair portion of all entry fees will go to the V-Foundation. If I show up, pay, get 3 runs and know we helped out the V-Foundation, then I go home happy!

Tell me where the key is and I will open the gates at 6:30 in the morning. We already have a volunteer to help with the waiver. I am sure Keith would be willing to lend a hand with waivers too.

No one is complaining about the number of people or number of potential runs; just asking if the gates can be opened a little earlier to help facilitate the flow.

ACTUALLY.... we ran 173 drivers (30 novices) at Sanford in 2003 (Points event #5) http://www.thscc.com/autocross/events/2 ... sults.html

4 runs and were packed up by 5pm IIRC.

I will be shocked if we break 155, we had almost 160 signed up for L'burg and 146 showed up.

Compromise. I am General Manager of this event. I will be there with the gate open at 7. Don't show up before that. There will be plenty of room to pit.

That was the NCAC. We used the runway for pits and grid. The course was the small loop close to the building. At that time, we could drive on the motorcycle pad. We actually put up a stop sign and marked the entrance towards the grid with cones to prevent someone from driving on the course.

Other notes from that event...the course was a 30 second course. We ran all four runs at one time to facilitate that number of people. We had 15-20 second overlap. The Shawn Whipple designed course was easy to follow and had few cones issues. Timing and scoring could see the entire course. The only issue was the bus almost got hit one or two times...oops.

Statistically, we usually have 10% no shows per event. But this being early in the season and the closest site to Raleigh, I would not compare it to Laurinburg. I would not be surprised to see a low no-show rate.

Would you like help manning the gate at that time? I would be happy to be there to help out.

I was just going to work the gate myself for 30 minutes, but your more than welcome to if you like.

We will take it. With my wife still needing to take care of our newborn on a basically hourly basis, working the gate would be a great worker shift for her. We will be there right at 7am (or a couple of minutes before).

Sounds like a plan.

Hooo, boy. Am I tired. PJ and I just got back from Kinkos where we printed up the course maps. We arrived on site at 12:30 and found another event going on. Our first cone on course was knocked out of the trailer at 4:45, and we finished chalking stuff up as the sun was going down. We learned from the site manager that evidently a crack house has been set up on the other side of the railroad tracks, and a gentleman that hangs his hat there fancies himself a thief. He stole a car that was being painted in a garage adjacent to the motorcycle pad by driving it through the door. So I got to resaddle the trailer on the Miata and help put all of the "spare" stuff back into the bus. Christine will find her cooking paraphenalia there as well.

Thanks again to Dan Durusky and Steven Westerfield for helping with setup.

Enjoy, kiddies, see you bright and early.

Thanks again for sticking around for the bracket race for those that did. We left there a smudge late, but were back in Raleigh for the beginning of the second period of the Canes game. (w00t)

I will take responsibility for not fully testing the remote start as it lay; we never had a chance to pull it out of the bus for a distance check as the stars were upon us that late at night. I wanted to do something different and thought that it would work well, and we suffered through the early heats and I apologize for the delays.

Other than that, I can't help but to salute the volunteers that attend our events. It was basically painless; people assume their duties and we have a very smooooooooth running ship. Even with the headaches that erupted from the wireless (and the subsequent discovery of the disconnection of the diesel exhaust pipe *cough* that messed with the bus workers) things went pretty smoothly. I don't have the words to describe how well Keith, Carl, Todd, Chris, Mary, Donnie, and many others (sorry guys) have the T&S down to a T. We were finished with audit seemingly as soon as the last competitor crossed the line.

I hope that you all enjoyed the course; it seems like it walked slower and more painful than it drove. If you didn't, then I believe that Walter and Les will have a "HorseyPowAr!!!1" course available in June.

Thanks to everybody for spackling up the cracks that appeared in the event through your efforts, and I look forward to seeing you in Dee-Vegas.

Now let the complaining begin.

Thanks to all the novice mentors as well. It was kind of crazy but once we filtered it down to the first timers it went well. I see people making friends, having fun, and learning! Watch out for Novice class of 2006!

Note that Brian Herring showed up, did not run, and spent his day as a Novice Mentor.
