I bet I can predict where most of the DNFs were: the gate right after the three offsets in the first part of the "P".

During my first course-walk, I DNFd that element. Walking! Can't remember who it was walking behind me that set me straight, but thanks again.

During my second course-walk I was back on the previous section telling Andrew Frick how far ahead we should be looking at that point when I saw Patrice do that exact same thing. I found him later and pointed it out.

Of course, in my third run (fourth actually after a miss-placed cone rerun) I DNFd in that spot! Sheesh!

I think the cone geometry at that point made it hard to spot the right-most cone on that gate because it aligned visually with some cones further round the bend.

In no way am I saying that the course was bad at that point - it was entirely my fault and I learned a valuable lesson. Eyes OPEN!

Thanks to all that made this event successful. I know there was a lot of hard work that goes unseen. It is appreciated.
I liked the course and didn't even find the slow start too bad. The turn around at the end of the runway was well designed and not so tight that the bigger cars couldn't negotiate the turn (if you braked soon enough). The rest of the course was fast and fun. Good job.
I was concerned that we couldn't handle 3 cars on course at one time, but that went well too. I would have liked 5 or even 6 runs, but maybe that will come with Daylight Savings.
Everybody did their job well.

Yeah, I did that on my first run. :( I was cooking through the three offsets and not looking ahead and was just thinking I was carrying a ton-o-speed and was going to just fly around the "P". Emmett was then pointing or saying something as he knew I was going to miss it just as also noticed what I was doing wrong (way to fast at this point to make it) and then I let loose with a nice loud &$#* as I missed it!!!

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

Make sure you water whatever you decide to put in that planter Ryan. I'd recommend daisys or something a little more drought tolerant.

I'll have more photos up later in the week.

Simon: When riding with someone, I referred to that cone as "The B*tch." Made it harder to forget.

excellent event, well run, especially considering it was the first of the season etc. etc.

looking back to last year and my novice baptism @ L'burg i can testify to the standard three principles. (1) seat time (2) look ahead (3) turn early. (still working on #3)

last year 26th of 27 in class
117th of 119 overall

this year better. BTW anyone know where i got my best time killing cone on my fourth run? knocked me out of trophy contention in TIR, bummer.

Preface:

- I was NOT at the event on Sunday
- I WAS teaching on Saturday

While running L'burg as your FIRST event is a difficult task to *begin* with, it is very unique as it is a VERY long and challenging course, generally, and something where we DO have the ability to set something up that is higher* speed. While, to me, it would *seem* hard-er setup than a general course (I would think from safteyand speed control), it is NICE as it gives you experience with higher speed autoXes. Talking with some other STU racers in OTHER clubs, this is something that they are not always used to, and it is something they seem to enjoy. IMHO, if you can do well at L'burg and Sanford (and feel comfortable with the car at those speeds), it is generally 'easier' to acclimate yourself to slower courses as you 'feel' like you have more time.

Anyway, thanks to all the people for a really smooth Sunday, and thanks to the Novices for coming out and all of their feedback. As for Sunday, I hope everyone had fun, and come out to the RallyXes!! ;)

Not that this applies. . . ahem.

Did I miss the dash plaques? Or did we not have one. First event in the MCS.

Since I won't have a trophy to put it on, maybe the fridge or the filing cabinet would work.

I worked that section during heat number 1 and I know we called in no less than a dozen DNF's from people missing that gate.

You missed 'em, but if you come to the meeting I'll bring you one.

BTW, there will be season long plaques, I just haven't gotten around to them yet. Something about doing track, autocross, rallycross, being VP, getting married, doing the trophies for all 3 programs...blah, blah, blah....

Anyone got a course map (to post) handy? I don't recall any problem in that section, or maybe I was just looking ahead very well. :?

If I remember correctly, the map shows gate as being farther to the left (as you exit the offsets) and looks very hard to screw up. In reality, the gates was to the right. But if not looking ahead and just exiting the offsets in a natural way (allowing the car to pushing out toward the left) you would miss that it was a two cone gate that you had to go between on your right. You would just see the left cone of the two cone gate and then beyond that, the cone at the corner. So you just drove around the entire gate as you focused on the big corner ahead. IF you did look ahead and did actually know in advance where the gate was, you would see that as you exited the offsets, you had to already be heading back toward to right, drive through the two cone gate, then go around the corner.

Hey, there was a disclaimer on the course map...

And I did mention the uselessness of course maps for reminding yourself where to go, just last week! :P

the gate was way more to the right......I know its not accurate (and I am not tryin to make excuses) but that was the trouble spot for me at least and I DNF my best run there.
