Ok, trying to figure out classing for this year. 93 honda del sol si. Kicker is it's an auto and I hate automatics. So, I'll be putting a 5 speed in it. Same class still, right? My concern comes from the fact that the motor mount is in a different location for the trans. When I switch it over, I'll have to remove the factory mount and move it 2-3" to the manual trans factory mount location. This is the mount on the frame rail that I am referring to. So, what does that do to me? I'm planning (hopefully) on running STS but I'm more concerned with being in the correct class. I'm the kind of guy that likes my cars the way I like them and run whereever I end up. So, STS or bumped to DSP?

Dave,

My opinion is that as long as you use the "option package conversion" principles in Stock you should be ok. Just make the car identical to the Stock 93 manual transmission version of the car in all respects. "Then" make any ST and/or Stock legal changes.

Edit to add: Keep in mind: Is(are) the engine cam(s) the same for the auto and manual version? Any other engine changes? Computer changes that ST doesn't allow?

I think modifying the unibody is the sticky point here.

Is the "mount" a separate part? Does it bolt on? If so, any chance the frame rail area is predrilled for either location? Even if it is a weld on situation it would seem to me that is a legit part of "option package conversion".

Engine cams are the same. Intake manifolds are different but I've got that too and completely forgot about it (auto has extra vaccuum ports if I recall correctly). The transmission mount that needs to be moved is a welded mount on the front frame rails. Basically, here's the changes that would have to be made:

Remove & relocate factory welded trans. mount on frame
Replace IM with factory manual manifold (which I guess doesn't HAVE to be done)
Bolt in factory shift linkage
Replace factory ECU with factory manual trans ECU (also doesn't have to be done but keeps the automatic CEL from coming on)
Jump 2 circuits so key can be removed from ignition & car started

Does that help any?

Dave,

STS is for four seat cars only. So the Del Sol is not going to fit. You may want to look at ?STS2? or maybe one of the *SP classes.

Sorry, STS2 is the planned class. I typically just refer to it as STS. Probably a habit I need to break.

Dave, no problem. :) Good luck with the car. I used to have a Del Sol Si and really liked it.
