I'll be glad to help, especially with the American made rear wheel drive cars. It has been painful for me to watch some of these cars. My co-driver this year prefers not to have me ride with him, so I'll have more time. He does like to ride with me when I go first.
When we have plenty of course workers, does this count as a worker assignment?

I must have been absent the day we had *too many* course workers.

Short answer... NO.

Itd be too hard to regulate who got off, who didnt, at which events, what heats, etc, etc.

so indeed, the rule is that helping the n00bs does NOT count as your cone working assignment.

thanks to all who are volunteering so far. we'll have the fastest, happiest n00bs, evar!

Do you mind posting a list of us in the first post in the thread so we know we are included in your list?

Also, if you guys have any information about how/what you would need from us so WE have an idea for HOW we can help, that would be awesome as well.

Let me know how I can help :)

haha perfect.

we're thinking about having name tags for novices (green) and for mentors (red). itd make coming up to strangers easier for the n00bs throughout the day if needed.

ha, now i can call people, noobs, yess.

I think minimum requirement for a mentor would simply to be to meet with a novice in the morning at the novice meeting, add anything me and PJ will forget during the meeting, let them ride with you on your first run, and then ride with them on their first run.

So it will only occupy the first half of the first heat in theory and then youre done! of course if wanted/needed and you'd like to, you can hang out w/ your n00b as much as you want. we'd also like you to keep wearing the nametag so novices know who to ask throughout the day if they have any.

So it won't be hard at all! come on, help us out.

So, as we are approaching the 'warm up' part of the season, is there anything else that you guys would like from us 'mentors'? Have you gotten name tags/identification ready yet (need help?)? Still doing a Novice Course walk (which MAY not work on LONG courses...)? Is it worth seeing what all of the mentors who have signed up are racing this year to make sure we have 'n00b coverage' for all heats (I mean, hey, I have a 4-door car, so I *can* stick 3 n00bs in the car with me ;D)? Do we need to be in a 'specific location' (i.e. Noob booth) for that heat so they have a place to come talk to people?

Maybe a lot of 'random' questions, but I am just curious, OR we can just play it by ear. Just trying to 'ping' the NOV Coords to see what they think ;)

_PING_

yeh, my sonAr works, thanks Brian!

So here is our tenative plan....
We are going to send out emails to all the novices signed up(Carl made a page that shows us that easily). We are going to email them the THSCC novice info(made by Graham and Rob) for them to read and tell them to make sure to come early etc, and be at the novice meeting. We will also tell them who their Mentor is so that they can find them...are there nametags on the bus? Maybe we could give the mentors their novice's email and they can decide if they want to make contact prior? I wouldn't want the novices bugging the mentors..unless they wanted to be bugged. We will either email the mentors the spreadsheet or post it on here. How does that sound?

I think we need a Novice tent :D

PJ,

There are no name tags on the bus as far as I know. Last year was an experiment to see if the Novice Mentor program would even fly. So we didn't spend money on all the ideas people had for name tags, buttons, shirts, fabulous vacations etc...

The buttons seemed like a good idea since you will have some different mentors at each event. At least the Mentor stands out and any Novice can ask any Mentor a question. We just did the intros after the Novice meeting.

Good Luck this year. Sounds like you guys are motivated to keep it going.

Graham

Sounds good. I work with networking equipment all the time, hence the 'ping' reference ;)

Anyone can contact me anytime, and I think the ideas sound good.

Great ideas! :D

I like the idea of being in contact with your novice before the event so you can find out a little bit about there background and explain to them a little bit of what to expect.
