Sounds like a chicken/egg thing - if they were classed competitively, more people would run them...

That is always the problem, why would classify something correctly if no one is running them? There is no guarantee that just because they were classed correctly the a bunch of people would flock to run the Z's nationally.

Absolutely there's no guarantee... and don't missunderstand... the only reason I bring up the Zs is thats what I drive currently... but the competitive juices are starting to flow and with the current classifications, it doens't make sense to try to make my car competitive (SOLO I or II)... if it were in a more appropriate class... I would be much more inclined to stick with it.

Some other 'sore thumbs' in BSP that stuck out to me:
*Triumph TR8
*Sunbeams
*Jag E-type

According to this http://www.moutons.org/sccasolo/Lists/2005/stprepc.html (not sure how accurate it is, but it is certainly the easiest to read) not only are E36 M3s in BSP (including LWs!) but also ZR1s, S2000, Z8 for cryin' out loud

DSP seems a much better fit performance-wsie IMHO... but I guess DSP is for 'sedans'? Heck, even ESP... where the 300zx non-turbo's are would be a better fit.

And what about stock? They are classed in E-stock!!

Again... I'm still learning about AutoX classifications... but at first glance it seems kinda arbitrary[/list]

The problem is that I remember reading that some guy built his 350Z up to BSP and his classic BSP Z was faster than his 350. So this brings up the problem of if the classic Z is too slow than maybe the new Z should be moved also. In autocross classing the SCCA see no need to move a 20+ year old car to a more competitive class. They are becoming more difficult to find in good enough shape. This is just something that I have picked up over the last few years I have been involved in Solo 2. There is a heated debate about the Mazdaspeed Protege not being moved down to GS from DS along with several other cars. What SCCA is trying to avoid is having a dominant car that is no longer available and fairly difficult to find. Just my $0.02

Before sticking to that story, be aware that they moved the Porsche 914 from CSP to DSP for '05. The 914 doesn't fit the profile of the other cars in DSP, just like the old Z cars.

I think they should move the 240sx to FSP. The 240 has nothing for the BMWs in DSP, or maybe just move all of those yuppy cars to BSP, and put them all on the same line. That could lead to some interesting engine swaps. :)

So, anyway, back to the original question...

I'm trying to decide between BSP and SM for next year. Is anyone else planning on running in BSP?

What tires will you be using? If I decide to try out R tires on the STi, I'll run BSP. Otherwise, I'll be in STU.

Do you have the ability to switch to stock map temporarily? If so, you could run in the spec-STi class.

I currently don't have the ability to switch between maps, so that's out.

Tires..good question. I'm going to buy RT-615's for daily drivers and if I like them they may see autoX duties. However, I am looking for the stickiest street tire and am considering:

-070's Last resort. I love these tires but the one size limitation sucks. I'm going wider this year.
-Advan Neova AD07
-Advan A032R Dot legal w/treadwear of 60
-Advan A046 -- I'd look for Evo take-offs
-Pirelli Corsa

Either in 235 or 245.
