I would like to extend an invitation to my fellow Tarheelers to the "Back to Twin Rivers " autocross in New Bern on Nov.6th. We would like to think that our organization ( Cape Fear SCCA ) has come a long way in the last year. Past performance is not an indicator of present day results. We're trying to keep this a small event ( which doesn't seem to be a problem ) with experienced autocrossers ( that's where you come in ). I realize that there is an event in Rockingham that weekend but if you're not attending that event or church then come on out and play. Anyway, you're all welcome to attend. If you do't have plans and you'ld like to attend, then mosey on over to www.myautoevents.com and register.

Hey Vern,

Thanks for the invite. I'd be there but I've already got Rockingham penciled in. Good luck and hope all goes well.

Kevin,
Good to hear from you. Glad to see you're back in the game after some tough times.

Cape Fear is doing a great job! I have run a couple of events with them this year and they have been very well run (is that good english?). I wanted to go to Rockinham but thanks to the last Cape Fear event in Wilmington my wife is now into auto x so we are going to New Bern.

OK - for those of us that are very new to the area... can you describe the location and a typical event? lot size/surface/runs/etc

It's at a shopping mall parking lot. Good surface. Low 40 second runs. At least 5 runs. Vettes will fit but it's not Laurenburgh. Relaxed atmosphere. Most of the drivers on street tires.Probably 40 drivers. We should be out of there by 4:00. If you'ld like a relaxing afternoon of autocross then come on out. Jim Pastorious ran with us at our last event there, the course design is very similar to our last event there, so he could probably give you a more unbiased idea of what to expect.

I have run a couple of times down there. First, grip level is totally subjective, so what I may think is grippy is not to the next person. It is pretty typical for a parking lot. I would put it on the same level as Sanford.

The big benefit, it is a parking lot. The course helps reinforce the basics of autocross. The course designs have been pretty good actually. The last two really made you think and gave you a number of different lines to drive; with 3 180's involved. I never had to use first gear in the MR2 on any of their courses.

Any lot is a good lot, but it is divided by a few islands. Shooting between the islands is a little tricky. But you only do that once.

The people running the events are first-rate. It is low-key and very friendly. Plus with JC Penney right there, you can get some shopping done.

I can not pass up VMP on that weekend. But it would be a toss up between TSCC and New Bern.
