Ok so now that our n00b season is over, and Dan killed his sticky tires, the .:R32 boys will be running in STX next year. It will be boring beating Dan at every event :D , so we need more people to run!

-Cosby? Do you plan on coming out more next year??
-Any other WRXs??
-Kevin/Christine??
-Jim where are you gonna run the Camaro?

You offering a co-drive deal? 8)

I may actually be running STU if I'm running autoxes at all - either way, the main focus will be rallycross.

The Camaro is running FS. I am too addicted to r-comps. It is a sickness...

Jim,

I have to disagree with you. It is NOT a sickness. It is a sign of high intelligence. :D The "point" of autocrossing is the "G's" which requires running the stickiest tires possible . . .

Dick (who considers R-comps to be somewhat less than ideal . . . compared to slicks. )

Race tires= autocross nirvana

Having just corded my Hooshas, I'll be saving my pennies for more cheater rubber for next season.

I thought about running STX in the R, but without any mods I don't really see the point, except getting my a$$ handed to me.

A quick question for the folks with seasons of experience on R comps, how would you evaluate the tires' grip from the first event to the last as far as overall adhesion? I couldn't really tell much of a difference amongst the last few events, but the very first time out on them in Danville earlier this year was great as far as traction goes. Any comments?

I haven't really decided on whether I'm going to compete next year or not. If I do, it will be STX. I was going to let Laurinburg be my deciding factor, but the event just didn't set to well with me so I don't want to use that as the make or break factor for me autocrossing. The way I look at it, I've got a few months left before I have to make a decision, so I'm going to sleep on it for quite some time.

On a side note, What happened to your 5th run? I thought it was clean? Where there late cone calls, or did I just somehow miss that call when you came across?

Yeah R comps definitely get "tired" over time. I think this is especially true of Hoosier's. Everyone I hear with the V710's are VERY happy with them as long as they are kept COOL. They seem to wear very nice too. I have heard reports of V710's still "crisp" at 70 runs and not cording until well past 100 runs.

Well my 4th run was a 57 and they called it clean...I even went back and checked several mins later. So I thought it was in the bag, therefore I got a little crazy on my last run and DNFed the sweeper. I didnt know you beat me until the trophy session :o I looked at the raw sheets and they had 3 cones on that 57 run, they must have been REALLY late calls! unless maybe they gave me dans cones or something?? But oh well , it didnt change the season points, so CONGRATS to you!!! :D

-Please run with us next year!!

When we ran Kumho Ecsta V700s on the Neon, the grip seemed good right down to the cord. With the V710s on the Mini, we can definitely feel them "going away" towards the end of their life. We may be overheating the outer edges, though, since we can't get more than -0.4 degrees camber in the front. If you can get better camber, you'd probably find the V710s stayed good pretty much to the cord too.

My take on Victoracers and Hoosier Slicks is that as tires which normally need lots of heat to grip well age from use and/or multiyear storage they get much harder to get up to temperature. Compare Miles's and my relative times at the NCAC (HOT) and Greenville (HOTTER) on gray/black asphalt with our relative times on a cooler day on light colored concrete at L'burg. For the first time all year I had to be VERY gentle with the throttle on Miles' car. It was "almost" like driving a Mustang. It certainly didn't help that we had replaced a corded tire with a used one built in 2001 and flipped them all for the first time. Fortunately, Rick Butter's S04 Hoosiers were probably just as far down their "life curve" as ours were so Miles' was able to beat him for the day and for the year. :D

Since many of the top times (for the R tire crowd) were apparently on relatively fresh 710's and Hoosier S05's which seem to like the cooler conditions this may be "part" of the reason those guys were so far ahead of the AS guys. Driving performance "might" be a factor too.

I might be in STX next season. We'll see what Santa brings... Of course it would be surprising if I make half of the events, as rallycross and rally is my favorite thing right now.

I was on nearly corded (corded on the 1st fun run) Hankook z214's. According to the co-driver, they weren't all that good when new either ;) - AB

We have found the SO5s to give good grip right to the cords, >60 runs, if kept cool. Kumho tells us that the 710's have a harder rubber layer just above the cords and will go away quick once you hit it, about the time the grooves dissapear. They like to be very cool, <120*. The SO4s were also good to the cords, but the SO3s would heat cycle out after about 30 runs and drop off from there.
The Avons don't develop quite the grip of the Hoosiers or the Kumho (close tho) but are much less heat sensitive than the others.
