Sat after the school Donna and I will be headed over to Rockingham Dragway to see the "Night of Fire", part of the IHRA world championships there this weekend. It's quite a show as all the Pro classes (Top fuel, Funny Car, Pro Mod, and Pro Stock) have their last shot at qualifying for Sunday's elimination rounds, as well as exhibition runs by wheelstanders, and the worlds most powerful jet engined Kennelworth 18 wheeler Truck that has to be seen to be believed!
Our friend Mike Janis will be there defending his win last year in ProMod running a 4000HP Dodge Stratus (yes, that's thousand) Entry ticket includes open pits where you can walk right up and watch/talk to the competitors and check out their rides.
Anyone else want to join us?

Have a great time! I saw a TV ad for that yesterday during the motorcycle races on Speed and it looked pretty awesome.

Chuck,

What's the price for admission to this fine display for fire and horsepower?

35.00.
There is nothing like the sight, sounds and even smells of two top fuel dragsters at night, 20,000 HP unleased in a instant, 16 header flames shooting 20' in the air, rocketing down the strip in just over 4 sec and reaching > 330 mph. Closest approximation is standing at the edge of the runway as a 747 starts his takeoff, only a LOT faster. Last year there were ~ 20 top fuelers, 30 funny cars and almost 50 Pro mods trying to get into the top 8,16,16 fields on Sat nite. It was unbelievable!

The drags are awesome, but remind me in large about amusement park rides. You wait forever in anticipation, then the big moment is here, and it's over in a few seconds and then you do it again. Now this doesn't mean that I would like drag racing better if it was a continuous stream of cars running down the track (i.e. every 5 seconds as opposed to every 2 minutes or so), I like them just fine. What it means is that they need to make rides either longer or the lines for them shorter at the parks.
