I was looking at the entry list and PJ Aspesi won novice class in the last event. Doesn't that normally mean that it is time to move up to open class. I have watched him run and he is definitely fast enough to run. This is just a question because I always thought that it was run 3 events in novice or when you win the class, that it is time to step up.

We've announced new novice class rules several times this season, and they are posted on the thscc website.

All of these postings explain that we are running a year long novice class now. This is the first year that we've offered a year long Novice class (that I can remember). We wont know how it works out until the experiement is over.

Novices are welcome to play in Novice class all year, and are encouraged to do so if they want to.

This next bit is not directed at anyone in particular, and everyone all at the same time...

If you don't like the year long novice class, please voice your criticisms/concerns to the officers that decided to implement it (the AX VP's and club President). I DO NOT want to hear anyone giving novices a hard time because they choose to run the class that is there for them.

Scott

It's time to move up when you're kicked out after your first year, or you start feeling guilty/ want some better competition. :D

Just to clear this up. I am not against anyone. I don't run novice but last I knew before this forum was that after you won an event in Novice it was time to step up. That is fine that you are going to continue running novice since it is now a year long class. I hope that you continue to run good. Hope that this didn't create resentment.

ahh modesty, how refreshing. well, PJ at least nobody claimed it was your car and not your driving skills. as i see it as soon as one moves into open class the AWD issues come to light. rock on dude, it ain't like i'm going to win anytime soon no matter what class you run in.

as for the full season novice class, i am all for it. i look at it as an oppurtunity for those of us who really suck at this to learn and compete among our peers. while i might agree that anyone who has run a total of say 4 or 5 events or maybe participated in a novice school should not be allowed to run a full season of novice class the following year. as this is the first year some thought may need to go into next season.

maybe to keep it honest we could institute a novice A & novice B class. one for the full season novice and the other for the folks who enter sporadically. and in this way i could possibly break the top ten in novice class. woooowhooo.

i am tempted to change cars just to bring up my raw times but the pax would still kill me. so i plod along novice untill i get kicked out or up or wherever. not sure where i am going with this other than to wonder why anyone would care who wins novice other than those of us running novice class. but hey maybe that is just another part of the learning curve?

The idea of a points contest in novice seems kind of silly, but letting fast people stay in novice seems like a good idea. We've had 20+ people in novice consistently, and keeping people in novice for a while is probably better (from a retention standpoint) than kicking them out after 3 events or a win. I imagine going from winning in a class of 8 people to DFL'ing in a different class of 8 people the first two times out would probably be a shock. With the huge novice class, people get used to climbing the ladder.

I'm going the opposite direction, but that's because I'm rebuilding my Reliant's shortblock and it won't be installed and broken in by next weekend. Hello, STS!

I went from Novice to AS after my first race last year. From 1st Novice to DFL in AS. What I liked about being DFL was that there was no where to go but up. AND, I wanted to be looking forward for my competition versus looking behind to see who was coming up.

I think it's time to leave novice when you're driving fast enough to cause the course workers to flee their stations as you approach :)

:soap: Steve: Changing cars to bring up your raw time does just that brings up your raw time.....maybe. You may actually be slower because you will blow by gates faster. The best way to reduce time is to speed up the thing sitting in the left front seat  Some of us, (me included) do not pick up on this AX thing immediately and need seat time to improve. As long as you put in the effort and keep trying you will continue to improve. Chances are one day all the things that people have been telling you and that you have been hearing and trying to do will all at once rush out in a big "aha" moment and you will find your driving will get better. Once your driving gets better, your raw times will go down not because your car is faster, but because you are. Have someone ride with you and give you a couple of things to work on, then just concentrate on that. You will find yourself improving.

Oh well, now back to the regularly scheduled thread.

Steve just ignore Rob. It's the car, not the driver
All those Miata guys/gals are running courses built specifically for their cars.
This is really a Miata club, don't let them fool you.

This course was built specifically for you and the Z. So bring it out and play. Drop your raw times. Forget about PAX, PAX is for sissies

There's only 6 cones on the whole course. You should be able to miss them, they're all pointer cones anyway
