Over the course of the 5 or so years I have been doing this, I have attended 3 or 4 of the CCR 24 hour events (I forget the exact number). First off, CCR are to be applauded for putting them on. That is a task I would want no part of! Last year's event was the best.

CCR starts at noon on Saturday and runs until noon on Sunday.

You pay to run either 12 or 24 hours. If you run only 12 hours, you work a 2 hour worker shift. If you run all 24 hours, you need to work two 2 hour shifts. They have usually 2-3 staging lanes you get into and wait your turn to run. You have to tell the starter if it is a fun run or one that will count towards your 6 total timed runs. So you can make 12 runs before you take a timed run. Sorry, if you have a great run and did not tell the starter it is an official run...your loss.

I remember doing all 24 hours once. The other times I pack up and head home by 7 or 8. No one has ever caught me during the night or the next morning. Hoppe did get me last year for FTPAX with a Sunday morning run. But he cheated ;)

The pros...it is a lot seat time, the novelty factor the first time is way cool.

The cons...it is a long day, fatigue becomes a major factor, quantity vs quality seat time, a lot of waiting in line.

I firmly believe after 8 hours of AX (either driving, working, waiting) you are too tired. Fatigue becomes a big factor. You will be prone to make errors and actually develop bad habits...IMHO

It is DEFINITELY a cool thing, I have only done it once.

Vincent and I got a hotel room and got some shut eye from 11pm-5am and both ran faster the next morning (with rest). I agree with Jim, its still a LONG, LONG day. You have to pick and choose your times to try and run, 6am Sunday morning is a GREAT time to get some quick laps in.

Ok, I voted for 24hr event. Mostly because I have never done it before and it sounds crazy!

Since 24hr event doesn't have many votes, my second choice (not an option currently) would be...

12 hr event, first car off at noon, end at midnight, 6 runs count, run as much as you can. Basically the 24hr format as described, but in 1/2 the time and with a little earlier start time to fit in the 12 hours and end by midnight.

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

I'd vote for that!

Modified the poll once again for a ~Noon to 3pm start. I like this idea because we could do course setup that morning :)

It seems to me a 24 hour event would be too long. I know my "old self" would have to go home and sleep some during the night.
Starting sometime after noon and running until midnight sounds good. It will be hot at first, but cooler later on.

VMSC starts at noon and wraps up 4-5 runs by 5 in the afternoon. That is with 100-110 cars. So if we start at noon, we are done by 6 :( I would suggest start at 4 in the afternoon and end it by 10 in the evening.

That would allow the Raleigh people to be home by midnight. Still a very long day!

I would expect the people who want the 24 hour event will be willing to chair said event. We do not have event chairs yet.

Jim, are you reading my mind or something?

For those people who couldnt do it because of a Friday setup, that should NOT be an issue for this event, even with a noon start, there will be plenty of time for setup the morning of.

PM or email me if interested ecugrad97@yahoo.com, remember all you big car guys, I have a small car and the course will be TITE if I have to chair and GM it

We did the 24hr (all 24) a couple years ago when it was an NCAC event. From noon until 10 PM you got ~ 1 run/hr with 50-60 people in line. After 10PM until 6 AM the line dwindled at little until it got to ~ 10 people in line so you could make a run about every 10 min. The line started to grow again starting at daybreak until it was back up to 50-60 by 9:00. If you want to sleep, it was better to do it during the daylight hours! By running thru the night and taking advantage of a separate two driver lane that had ~ 1/2 as many cars waiting Donna and I each made ~ 24 runs. We ran an older set of tires first, then changed to a new set ~ 5 AM, made a couple break-in runs then our timed runs at about dawn. Slept in the car until trophy presentation then headed for home. We had to stop part way and sleep for another hour to keep from falling asleep at the wheel.
It was a great time to get a lot of seat time and try different setups, but it was exhausting! Some people pooled together and rented an RV or Ryder truck to sleep in on site.
IMHO Greenville is too small to set up a realistic test and tune style course so all the extra run time would mainly just wear out tires.

My only experience with a 24 hour autocross was the final NCAC event in '99, in Charlotte. Overall, it was a fun experience, but one thing that kinda sucked was the lack of a stationary grid like we use at all our autocrosses. IIRC, for each lap you do you literally pull up to a line of cars and creep forward, one car at a time, as each car is launched. When there's 50-60 cars in line, well, you get the picture. I don't see how we could apply a stationary grid system to an event like this, due to lack of designated run groups.
