What you are talking about can be accomplished by a regular novice school. If your wife would like to go to a school that you can attend as well, then perhaps she could go to the novice school that we have every year. The chicks school is for women who would like to try the sport in a laid back environment with no men around. The school is a great way for the women in the club to get to know each other better.

I'm all for the chick school and I understand why Chris wants to keep the guys out of it.... but here's an idea to possibly improve participation.

The current Chick School format results in enough demand that there isn't a need to increase participation, that would just diminish the quality of the instruction.

As it stands now the school, in its current format, has the full support of the autocross officers, and the club president (I'm sure it doesn't hurt that all of us have significant others that have participated, or plan to participate).

There is always room on the autocross calander for more events, all it takes is experienced people to volunteer to organize and run them. If there is demand for another school with a "split" format, then we can/should host that school.

Miles, I disagree. It is entirely your mindset that makes a "chick" school necessary. I personally feel that the women in the club can a) drive a bus b) set up a course and c) set up equipment. And have a great laid-back time doing so without being told the "right" way to do so.

You know what... three people in a row misunderstood what I was trying to say so I just deleted my original post. Maybe some day when I have more time, I'll have a face to face discussion about this topic.

Wes, you missed my whole point. I can assure you it is not my attitude or opinions that "make a chick school necessary" as you said. I'm happy to see more women get involved in high performance driving and autox and have no illusions about their capabilities. There are plenty of ladies in the club that drive better than I do and some of my best instructors have been women. You won't find much better talent anywhere than from ladies like Mary Fisher, Sally Johnson and Donna Frank. Wes, your post was insulting. If we had been discussing this face to face, I doubt you'd have said that.

There is a good chance that I simply didn't communicate clearly what I intended in my original post, so I won't waste anyone else's time right now in trying to decipher it.... ... my apologies for wasting the reader's time.

Scott, I'm delighted to hear that the Chick school is full. It's just that from some of the info I had seen, I didn't get that impression. Glad I was wrong about that.

Miles

Edit: One clarification.. I don't think Scott misunderstood where I was headed, he just clarified some incorrect information I had about participation levels...

This is Sally, not Scott.

Just an FYI.....the planned school currently has 20 some ladies planning on coming out in July to take part in the school! And that's BEFORE registration is open! And BEFORE advertising with other clubs!

Registration should be opening soon, more specific details to follow! Should be a great time! ;)

Sally, that's great! I'm glad that it's coming together so well. Maybe one day I can get my wife out there too.

Thanks for all the hard work that you, Chris and the other ladies put into this!

Maybe you could have an event that benefits the SPCA, Then Audrey and Julie could be coerced into participating

His was?

I'd say yours was far more insulting. And I doubt you would have said the above in person either

Seriously, what's going on here on this forum? Anyone who posts an idea is generally loudly shouted down then stomped on so hard that they don't just shut up here they also take their toys and go home. (sorry for the mixed metaphors)

Whitney seemingly nearly quit the club over the second-guessing here on the forum. Now Miles (who with his years of selfless site search and school effort deserves to be heard and not dismissed out of hand) gets aggressively blasted for making a post on an admittedly touchy subject.

Not cool.

Everyone: count to 10, 100, whatever before posting in anger.

I'm sorry I missed the original post by Miles. Since his posts are probably the most 'balanced' of anyone on here I'd have a hard time believing that his perceived 'mindset' was anything more than a reading comprehension issue.

That's the beauty of an internet forum. It manages to strip away the majority of how a message is presented, leaving much more (often too much) up to the interpretation of any given reader.
