It seemed that the weather did not deter a nice crowd at the event yesterday. I hear we had ~115, not bad for Greenville + rain.

So how was it?

It was awesome. The course was a lot of fun, even with the "Patrice Bousquet special" slaloms. (you had to experience them to understand) And if you didn't drive it right, there were several places where you could really screw yourself. Grip sucked in the morning, got a little better in the afternoon. Lots of people looked like they were having lots of fun. I was one of them. Took my whole team for a ride on the very last competition run of the day. Rain started & ended during the trophy presentation, which was held inside. Christine didn't cook, so we got to ride in the same car & hang out together & she got to socialize with people during the event. She had a lot of fun autoxing for the first time in about a year. It was well worth the trip!

I got lots of great photos, and I'll be posting them soon. Here are a couple of my favorites to start off:

Question: Can I improve my times if I lick the steering wheel while driving?

A BIG THANKS TO ALL INVOLVED IN MAKING THIS SUCH A GREAT EVENT!! :D

I was really impressed with the use of available space, the course actually felt bigger than the size of the lot! I'm learning to appreciate a more technical type course too. :D

That last slalom was my doing. Patrice's original had evenly space cones which led you into the final left turn to the finish way too fast. At least, that was how it seemed when I "teched" the course with my Mustang. Of course, the tire trailer pushing the car along may have had something to do with that. Still, I thought everybody would figure out pretty fast that a decreasing slalom means "slow down". If you did, you had a good line to the finish.

Ultimately, I didn't want anybody to run through the pointer cones at the finish and nail the timer head. And nobody did!

I also designed the stop box that Patrice coned away a 39.990 in, denying our team the Challenge victory. Sigh. The purpose of that was to slow cars down before they got to the overhang on the east side of the building, and the cars that were parked next it when we left the site Friday afternoon.

We had a good time. It was the first time that we tried to bring the entire family. It was interesting trying to walk the course while carrying around a 2 yr old who wanted to divert to each puddle and splash in it. Overall the kids still had energy at the end of the day, but we were worn out and left before awards (they slept on the drive home).

Weather was nice. a bit breezy and no rain during the runs. I enjoyed the course as I think it was a blast to drive! I think it looked like a sea of cones to some, but I think that is entirely due to the smaller size and shape of the lot. It was Tina's second autocross and she had a rougher time finding her way around the course.

I think courses at airports tend to be easier for novices to drive as they still are relying on being able to see exactly where to go next and there is less visual confusion for them to deal with as the course generally is in a straight line. On a site like this you have to know the course and not look for it while driving. I think that caused a number of DNF in a few key spots, but that is the way it goes.

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

Definitely  I came too fast into the last gate in that slalom and I was showing my disgust. Kevin cought me in the act.

It was not my best event. I really enjoyed the course, though. Big thanks to Art, Patrice, and everyone else that made it happen.

I also recommend riding with Randy and his new Kumhos. Wow, that thing has some grip .

loved it...had a great time...the course was challenging and fun, and it reinforced the value of multiple course walks and looking ahead.

We sooooooo lucked out with the weather! For those who didn't attend, we actually had a few sun-shinny moments right after lunch. 8)

We had a close battle in DS, but I think Simon showed some R's how it's done.

I don't think I've every been to an autocross that went that smooth and finished that early, so great job event chairs.

It must work, I've seen several pictures of Eric P. doing that too!

What a great event! I'm still surprised at what a well-oiled machined THSCC really is. Even though we were short two AX VP's and a Registar things ran very smoothly. :D

Sally pitched in to help with registration, (thanks Sally!) and Todd did double duty as head of T&S and announcer part of the day. Our worker coordinators reported that everyone showed up to their work assignment on time and didn't even have to be prodded to do so. Let's please keep that up! :)

Art and Patrice handled all of their event chair duties and designed a very fun course that was well suited to the lot area we have to work with. Even their modified grid system went off without a hitch. Great job guys!

We really lucked out with the weather with everyone getting 4 dry runs and lots of fun runs to boot. The rain held off just long enough for us to get inside to do the trophy presentation. BTW, all of you who scattered and didn't attend I have your trophies! I will NOT be hauling them around all year long to try and find you, so you'll need to find me.

I few items that I thought were worthy of noting in no particular order:

- Dustin now loves Hoosiers and if you plan to run CS you'd better bring
your A-game!
- Randy now has the Mustang suspension dialed in and has learned to
save his tires. Watch out you AWD hacks, here comes the redneck!
- Patrice designs a stop box then has it bite him in the a** to snatch
away his FTD....priceless.
- If the CRX I drove had the DOHC ZC motor I still couldn't beat
Feinberg...I hate him!
- Manual steering really sucks. Hey I need some excuse right?
-Setting up the CRX for easy H&T $60, hitting the brake and gas three
runs in a row
to ruin my runs because of it...priceless. :x

???

He is not even in our class anymore as we all moved to STU.

Hey, if you want the 'AWD hacks' back in ESP WITH 315 R-compounds, just let me know next year. ;)

When the results come up, I would like to see the raw times. I believe they were very close (AWD hacks on Azenis vs RWDs on R's). I have all the respect for Randy and his driving. His LBFing in that car scares me. :D

Which is why I dont think ESP will have to worry about the STi/EVO duo next year, just my personal reading of the tea leaves is that the SCCA will send them elsewhere in SP.

Hey, if that is what the SCCA decides, that is what they decide.

The STi/Evo combo got 100% hosed last year in Nationals though. 10th was the closest STi, and I believe that 5th was the closest Evo.

100% prep != Local Prep.
