What did you think about the Test and Tune course configuration we used in February?
I really liked it and would love to see us run that configuration again. (at least once more) 32%  32%  [ 12 ]
I really didn't like it. Let's don't run that configuration again. 3%  3%  [ 1 ]
It was fun. I would want to run there at least some of the time for future events. 37%  37%  [ 14 ]
I liked it, but I'd sure rather run the big loop we usually run! 24%  24%  [ 9 ]
I'm bored with the big loop and didn't like the GK course. Let's do something else. 5%  5%  [ 2 ]

Keeping in mind that this thread is specifically requesting opinions, mine is as follows, FWIW.

I didn't attend the Test & Tune, so I can't comment. I did attend the first points autocross a couple weeks ago and, in hopes of not offending the guys who designed the course, didn't care for it. While I agree that the tight "stop and go" course design was good for learning the rewards of patience and the correct line, a faster, more flowing course offers other/different advantages. The characteristic that concerned me most w/ the short course was the extremely rough surface, especially at the entrance to the first set of offsets. After hearing about several of our members spending a good part of a weekend patching concrete prior to the event, I was surprised to be running on the roughest Laurinburg course I can remember and honestly concerned about ripping out a rear sway bar mount (a known problem w/big aftermarket bars on the WRX/STI chassis).

Since VMP is no longer on our schedule, Laurinburg is the only location we have the opportunity to run a "big" course, and I for one absolutely love the big courses we've run there the past few seasons (the ones either starting or ending in the "P" section). The fast sweeper and fast slaloms we've run with that type of course layout, especially with all that grip, are a blast.

Again, I hope my opinions above do not offend, and thanks to everyone who has designed and set up our courses at all the locations we run. Our courses are always very safe and fun, which really says a lot.

L'burg is our biggest venue by far so I vote for whatever area will afford a reasonably open course (it would be nice to use the turbo once in a while) and get 60 to 70 second runs. Yes, Les Davis will still whoop me, especially if he gets the supercharger by then, but I'd rather drive 2+ hours from NE Raleigh to get 60 second runs rather than 45 second runs. Since we have the space there I say let's use it. Just my opinion, but then I enjoy every THSCC autox no matter where it is. It is the people in this club that make the difference and that is what makes every THSCC event fun! Then again, there was that rain soaked event at VMP...not fun!

I hate working the course at autox and I must tell you about it, often.

Thanks everyone for voting and putting your comments in. As it stands now Rob and I are going to use the P and the big loop we have run in the past.

While the GK area has promise it needs a fair amount of work and logistics issues to be addressed for a normal event. For the T&T it was a nice change and allowed us to test it and get some ideas for future possibilities.

So don't give up on the GK area as an option. We haven't.

Graham
