I voted a free event. I'm thinking more on the lines of the last fun event we run at the end of the season. Based on the bank account at that time or even a discounted price. If it is doable for members only.
Carl made a point that SCCA has the finest equipment and they charge $100 for 6 runs. We charge $20/25 for 4-5 runs. If the gadgets drive entry costs to a $100 for 6 runs then I'm against gadgets. They should be budgeted for accordingly. And no I'm not against high tech. It pays my bills. Just being realistic on what and why.
Along those lines I like Miles' point about having a more fixed budget without getting into a beaurocratic nightmare. Some percent is alloted to keep the club running. That covers maintenence of existing equipment and necessary updates to keep it current. Supplies and all get a peice. Then some percent is allocated for R&D. That covers T&S changes like AXware, wireless devices, remote whatever, etc... If you have to work within a reasonable budget then you can still get new hardware but it won't turn into a spending spree. You could also setup a fund for donations towards gadgets. Some people have already offered to put money towards them.
I also disagree with one of the ideas Miles had about increasing attendance to 140 or more. Regardless of how many high tech solutions we have it still takes time to run 120 cars in a day. We only have so much daylight to do it. Unless we start extending our day during the months with DST. We already set a cap of 120 and let 5-20 more cars in. If we set a cap of 140 then let 5-20 more in it will get out of hand. I'll be the first to admit that I want 5 runs instead of 4 and we seem to be able to consistently do that now. If high tech solutions means maybe 6 runs even better
I beleive over the winter that Ryan mentioned any expenses over $1,000 would get club membership to vote on. I think that is a good idea. There was also discussion about someone putting together a doc showing revenues and expenses over the past years. Similar to what Mark V. showed at the Xmas party. I'd still like to see that.
Who knows, maybe they'll be enough left over to buy that awning
I'm all for seperating the Rallycross program. Both programs should pay some amount towards the bus, equipment, and supplies. While today the Rallyx program is taking less than it brings in that doesn't mean it won't tomorrow. You have seperate groups of people and interests. Just like the track program.
