I think it's in poor taste to berate someone for a course design! While I would have rather have run a course designed by the vette guys I thought your design was a lot of fun. Challenging but fun. Plus, it forced me to try different tire pressures (heavy car + overdriving = quick heat build up)...something I always set-and-forget. I *probably* learned a lot yesterday, but I won't know for sure until the next event :)

The one thing I have learned about this club, when you volunteer to do something, you had better put on your flak jacket. So I had mine on all weekend and it is still on. Thanks to those who offer encouragement, that is why I volunteer the whole weekend away. To those that berated me before, during and after the event...I will not let a few bad apples spoil it all. Rick and I put together three courses for one weekend. Hell, my favorite was the novice course with the timer. That course was only 23 seconds long :o

What makes me pretty happy is seeing the wide variety of classes in the top 20. I am disappointed in the poor showing for ES though ;)

Deep breath...

Consider that the people running the event probably were very stressed out at the event, and quite tired then, let alone after a 2-4 hour drive home. Even now all of those people are probably tired and quite gumpy.

Add to that, most of the people running the show were the people who ran the school. Oh yeah, they also instructed at the school.

Now, lets add to the equation those same people have a lot of emotional stake in the event. If it goes well, yeah, we probably hear it, but if it doesn't go well, I assure you that we will hear it. We will also take it personally if the event doesn't go well. It's our job to take it personally.

That said, we ran a great event, the glitches were minor and everyone left with 5 runs and a suntan/burn. That seems great to me!?

Now it's the day after, and we're all dog tired, but pretty proud of what we did (and already know that we have a laundry list of things to work on), then, we log on to a forum and see pages of construtive criticism.

Yeah, Jim's right, for some reason, you need to have a thick skin if you want to bend over backwards to show people a good time. Pretty screwed up isn't it. How's that saying go? "...Walk a mile in their shoes..."

It isn't that we don't want to hear constructive comments, we do! It will make the events even better. It just happens that right now, we're too tired to be overly objective, and are likely to be quite grumpy.

What does this mean for you? Give us a week to recover (yes, it will take us a week, and then we start the process all over again for the April event). After that week, if you can even remember your idea/complaint/criticism, please email us, or post it for comment. If it's really important, you will remember it just fine after a week.

If we aren't given a little recovery time, then please take any of our rants/odd comments with a grain of salt.

Thanks,
Scott

PS: I couldn't be prouder of the way our staff put together this event.

* yesterday, novices kept blocking the pre-grid line while they waited on helments, got out to get helmets, etc. We need to educate them not to do this. There was plenty of room to pull to the side, get yourself ready and then pull back in line. (this is something that we just need to add to our novice education training)

Miles

Thanks for pointing that out Miles. You are absolutely right. We did not cover that in the Novice Meeting and will add that to our agenda. Yet another new staff member with lots to learn.

It was interesting having so many Novices we had to split up into 2 groups to do the walk. But that is a good thing for the club and the sport.

As long as we're criticizing   what if any is the significance of the "m" after some of the position numbers in the indexed results? If it doesn't have significance let's GET IT DAHE|| out of there!

(only kidding!)

It's actually designating member vs non-member, but clearly isn't implemented at this point (many of the those without an "m" are members).

If/when we implement this fully, it will make season points calculations trivial since AXWare has the functionality built in.

I agree with Donna there was alot of trash laying around. I picked up what I saw and I most people who bought lunch knew I had trash cans.

It's funny, I was one of the last to leave the site, so I did my usual "drive around and pick up trash" thing. I commented to Scott or Jason about how it was cleaner than any event I could remember. I thought "we" as a club had finally gotten the message about picking up trash.

Guess not ... little did I know that there were some garbagepeople out there picking up after everyone other than me. To those of you that did - thanks! For those of you that left trash - Grow Up and stop making people pick up after you!!!

I don't understand it either. Christine provides you with a place to put the trash and she'll take it home for you. All you have to do is put it in the bag.

Geez, it seems we still have a number of first graders in the group. :o

Get the memo people..."Your mama doesn't live here, pick up your own mess". :whip:

I think a lot of the trash was probably just in somebody's pit area, and got blown over to where the trashpickeruppers found it. There was a lot of wind gusting out there, and maybe people were rushed to go run or work & just put the trash in something next to their cars, instead of walking all the way over to put it in Christine's trash bag. I picked some up next to where we were set up & in a few other places, and from its placement it appeared to have been blown there. Just trying to give people the benefit of the doubt...

Hey you opinionated bastage!!! Did you get any Pics??

No pictures this weekend, other than family & friends (and no car photos at all). I'll try to get some next time, just needed a break from doing that.

Also wanted to say that I just went back & re-read my first post in this thread, and I don't really see myself berating anyone - just said I hated the course, but maybe everybody else loved it, and thanked Jim & Rick for putting their energy into all that they did this weekend. Maybe the folks who've used that word were talking about somebody else? :? If not, please take a reading comprehension class. :P

In other words, thanks very much for the effort, it just wasn't for me - on this particular day, at this site, with this car. Different site, different car, different expectations, could've been great.

You people are too damn sensitive - is Brian rubbing off on you?

Ok "Top Gun".

Ps. Beating the "Top Gun" is on my 'to do' list, but you are making it TOO easy now ;)

my observation regards course work. purple chalk is not easy to see in any way, and i found the yellow only slightly better. have you all experimented with various colors? my sunglasses only make it worse so maybe i need a visit to the eye doctor.

Aye... out on the white concrete, the pastell colors were quite... hard to find. This is impacted by a short course, and the threat of cars coming any minute made working the slalom with three cones a... challenge ;)

Overall, I am NOT disappointed in the course. That was NOT my intent by my bullet. It WAS a topic that I was just looking for reasoning as why we laid a 'small course' -- no more, no less. I throughly enjoy every course as I KNOW that I am not the best driver, and I want to see what cars and drivers are the best... and how different cars perform differently. I though that course was a GREAt way of keep the whole field tightly packed, and rewarded CLEAN runs. You had to do that yesterday along with maintaining momentum --- it was a great lesson!!!

Overall, I thought this first Points Event was a step above and beyond what I had experienced in previous events, and I REALLY liked all the small improvements that made it feel more 'with the times'.

I had plenty of niggles I can go on about, but I do like the:

- speaker in the pits

- QUICK turn around time on results

- food provided at remote events

- great drivers

- wonderful people overall

This club has always been a treat to run with, and I hope to see events to continue to get more 'hi-tech' and more convient to the driver (times, cones, quick line queues [great job overall with this one], feeling of an ogranized event [great here too]).

Good job guys!

- brian

Ps. I dont want to chair an event as I have 0-clue on course design. If I designed it, it is going to be two pivot cones and nothing but slaloms. ;)

Drywall scraps make the best marking "chaulk" IMHO. Usually free, self sharpening, consistant 1/2" width heavy white line that is highly visible on most all surfaces, washes off in a couple rains or erased with a stiff broom but lasts thru a shower, easy to use just run it along the cone base for a perfect box.
I have plenty of scrap pieces I'd be willing to donate to the cause.
